The children of God are those who have been born, from above, into His family. In \cf1\ul 1Pe_2:2\cf0\ulnone "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:" we should desire to grow spiritually beginning with the milk of the Word. In Isaiah 28 we find out that we should not continue on milk but we need to be weaned. \cf1\ul Isa_28:9-10\cf0\ulnone "Whom shall he teach \b knowledge\b0 ? and whom shall he make to understand \b doctrine\b0 ? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:" \i \cf1\ul\i0 Heb_5:13\cf0\ulnone "For every one that useth milk \i is \i0 unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe." We are expected to mature spiritually and grow in the Word until we are eating the meat of the Word. \cf1\ul Heb_5:14\cf0\ulnone "But strong meat belongeth to them that are of \b full\b0 \b age\b0 , \i even \i0 those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." We are told that Emmanuel will eat butter and honey in \cf1\ul Isa_7:15\cf0\ulnone "Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good." We find out how to make butter in \cf1\ul Pro_30:33\cf0\ulnone\b \b0 "Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter..." The churning of milk to make butter is hard work. The meat of the word is IN the milk of the word. It just takes hard work to get those nuggets of truth to come together. Our ability to discern between good and evil is what will be judged at the Judgment Seat of Christ.\b \cf1\ul\b0 2Co_5:10\cf0\ulnone "For we must all appear before LVALthe judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things \i done \i0 in \i his \i0 body, according to that he hath done, whether \i it be \i0 good or bad [evil]." Responsibility and accountability comes with maturity in the word. \cf1\ul Luk_12:48\cf0\ulnone ".....For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more." The main thing that we need to do is to grow. \cf1\ul 2Pe_3:18\cf0\ulnone "But grow in grace, and \i in \i0 the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him \i be \i0 glory both now and for ever. There are those who teach that when we are saved we are adopted into the family of God. This concept of adoption does not agree with what we find in \cf1\ul Joh_3:3\cf0\ulnone "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be \b born\b0 again [\b from above\b0 ], he cannot see the kingdom of God." When we receive Jesus Christ as our personal saviour we are born from above into the family of God. Being born into the family God, means adoption is not necessary. In \cf1\ul Eph_1:5\cf0\ulnone we find the word \b adoption\b0 in context with the word \b children\b0 . "Having predestinated us unto the \b adoption of children\b0 by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will," The phrase "Adoption of children" is the translation of one Greek word, \f1\fs26 uijoqesian\i\f0\fs24 .\i0 This word is the same word that is used in \cf1\ul Rom_8:15\cf0\ulnone , and is a compound word containing the words \f1\fs26 uiov\f0\fs24 and \f1\fs26 tiqhmi\expndtw5\f0\fs24 .\expndtw0 The word \f1\fs26 uiov\b\f0\fs24 \b0 means "son". The wordLVAL \f1\fs26 tiqhmi\f0\fs24 means "to put", "to lay", "to appoint" and "to ordain". There is not a single hint to suggest that the word \f1\fs26 uioqesian\f0\fs24 means "adoption." The word "Adoption" means "To appoint as a son" or "To ordain to sonship".\par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28\b WHEN DOES ADOPTION TAKE PLACE?\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\kerning0\b0 The appointment was made before the foundation of the world, (Ephesians 1:4) but when does the appointment take effect? \cf1\ul Rom_8:19-23\cf0\ulnone , and \b 23 \b0 can help us with this question. \cf1\ul Rom_8:19\cf0\ulnone "For the earnest expectation of the creature [creation] \b waiteth\b0 for the manifestation [Greek \f1\fs26 apokaluyin\f0\fs24 = the revelation, or the unveiling] of the sons of God." In \cf1\ul Rom_8:23\cf0\ulnone The manifestation of the sons of God will take place when our bodies are raised from the dead. "...We ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit [that is to say], the \b redemption of our body\b0 ." Jesus Christ was declared the \b Son of God\b0 with power at His resurrection: \cf1\ul Rom_1:4\cf0\ulnone "And \b declared\b0 [\f1\fs26 orizw\f2\fs24 \f0 = appoint] \b\i to be\b0\i0 [This verb is not in the Gr. text.]\i \b\i0 The Son\b0 of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the \b resurrection\b0 from the dead:" In \cf1\ul Phi_3:21\cf0\ulnone we are given some insight into what will happen at the resurrection of the body. "Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself." \par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28\b AS CHILDREN, WE ARE SERVANTS\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\cf1\kerning0\ul\b0 Gal_4:1-2\cf0\ulnone "Now I say, \i That \i0 the \b heir\b0 , as long as he \b is a child\b0 , differeth nothing from \b a servant\b0 , though he be lord of all; But is \b under \b0 tutors and governorLVALs \b until the appointed time\b0 of the Father." A contemporary illustration of this is when a Jewish boy, at age 13, becomes a 'son of the commandment' and a full member of the synagogue at his bar mitzvah. The Hebrew word \b\i bar\b0\i0 means "son", and the word \b\i mitzvah\b0\i0 means "command" and the root word, \b\i tsavah\b0\i0 means to "enjoin" and is translated "appoint", "charge", "put" or "command". Just as a Jewish boy would be placed into the family as a son, so also in the family of God, many of the children of God will be \b declared sons of God\b0 and will no longer be servants under tutors and governors. Until the Lord takes us home to be with him we are either being profitable or unprofitable servants. \cf1\ul Mat_25:23\cf0\ulnone "His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." \cf1\ul Luk_17:10\cf0\ulnone "So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our \b duty\b0 \b to\b0 \b do\b0 ."\par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28\b "THEY ARE THE SONS OF GOD"\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\kerning0\b0 The first occurrence of the word "Adoption" is found in \cf1\ul Rom_8:14-15\cf0\ulnone "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the \b spirit of adoption\b0 , whereby we cry, Abba, Father." In verse 14 we have the statement "They are the sons of God". If those that "Are lead by the Spirit of God....are the sons of God", this seems to indicate that the sons of God have been manifested and the body has been redeemed. This has not happened. For us to understand what is being said in verse 14, we will have to study two verbs in that verse. The two verbs are "Are led" and "They are". Both are in the present tense, which mLVALeans the actions of these verbs is continuous. You graph the action of the present tense with a straight line (\f3\'be\f0 ). We need to translate the verb (\ul Gr.\f1\fs26 agw\ulnone\f0\fs24 ) "Are led" to reflect the present tense and passive voice: "For as many as \b are being led\b0 by Spirit of God...". The passive voice means the subject, "As many as", receives the action of the verb, "Being led." Because the present tense expresses continuous action, the action of " \b being led\b0 by Spirit of God" can continue for a while then be terminated. The other verb (Gr. \f1\fs26 eimi\f0\fs24 ) "They are" is also in the present tense, and it is the verb "to be" in English. This word can be translated "\b they\b0 \b are\b0 \b being\b0 ." As long as the Spirit of God is leading us, we are \b being\b0 \b the\b0 \b sons\b0 \b of\b0 \b God\b0 . As soon as we stop being led by the Spirit of God, we are no longer being, behaving or conducting ourselves as sons of God. We have similar uses of the present tense in \cf1\ul Rom_8:5-8\cf0\ulnone and\b 8\b0 . Romans 8:5 "For \b they\b0 that \b are\b0 [present active participle of \f1\fs26 eimi\f0\fs24 , \b they are being\b0 ] after the flesh \b do mind\b0 [present active of \f1\fs26 du>namia\f0\fs24 , \b they are minding\b0 ] the things of the flesh..." Those who are behaving themselves in the flesh are being mindful of fleshly things. \cf1\ul Rom_8:7\cf0\ulnone "Because the carnal mind \i is \i0 enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." If we are not subject to the law of God neither are we subject to the Spirit of God. We have become lawless. \cf1\ul Rom_8:8\cf0\ulnone "So then \b they\b0 that \b are\b0 [present active participle of \f1\fs26 ei>mi\f0\fs24 , \b they are being\b0 ] in the flesh [This is not referring to being in the flesh literally, but minding the things of the flesh as in verse 5.] \b cannot\b0 [Two Greek words "Can" and "Not". The word "Can" is present passive of \f1\fs26 du>namiaLVAL\f0\fs24 , "They are being able"; plus the Greek word: \f1\fs26 ouj\b\i\f0\fs24 ,\b0\i0 the emphatic "Not" ] \b please God\b0 ." To be led by the Spirit of God is to "Be spiritually minded" (Romans 8:6), and to behave ourselves as sons of God, and to live in such a way as to please Him. Again, if \cf1\ul Rom_8:14\cf0\ulnone\b \b0 is making the statement that we are now sons of God, then the sons of God have been revealed and we are in our glorified bodies. This just simply is not the case. \par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28\b BECAUSE YE ARE SONS\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\cf1\kerning0\ul\b0 Gal_4:6-7\cf0\ulnone "And because\b ye are\b0 sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore \b thou art\b0 [present active of \f1\fs26 eimi\f0\fs24 , ye are being] no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ." The verb "Ye are" is present active of \f1\fs26 eimi\f0\fs24 , and should be translated "\b ye are being\b0 sons", just as it is in\b \cf1\ul\b0 Rom_8:14\cf0\ulnone . The verb "Thou art" in verse 7 is also present active of \f1\fs26 ei>mi\b\i\f0\fs24 ,\b0\i0 and should be translated " \b ye are being\b0 no more servants." It is obvious that we cannot say that we are the sons of God literally, just as we cannot say literally that we are no longer servants of God. We are still in this body of death.\par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28\b HOW DO WE LIVE LIKE A SON\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\kerning0\b0 Jesus Christ is our example.
