PERISHING SHEEP

Wednesday Evening:  February 27, 2008

Text:  Matthew 10:5-7  These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:  6  But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.  7  And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

SPAKE OPENLY TO THE HOUSE ISRAEL

John 18:20  Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.

SENT TO THE SHEEP OF THE HOUSE

Matthew 15:24  But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

TO ALL THE PEOPLE

John 8:2  And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

HE PREACHED THE KINGDOM

Matthew 4:23  And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

TEACHING, PREACHING THE KINGDOM

Matthew 9:35  And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

HE TAUGHT IN THE TEMPLE

Luke 19:47  And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,

GENTILES NOT ALLOWED IN THE TEMPLE

Acts 21:28  Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where against the people (Israel), and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place.

BLESSED BUT DIDN’T TEACH GENTILES

Matthew 15:23-24  But he (Jesus) answered her (Canaanite Gentile) not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.  24  But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

ALL THE EARTH BLESSED

Genesis 12:3  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

WOMAN AND DAUGHTER BLESSED

Matthew 15:28  Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith (hope): be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

SHEEP LOST, BUT NOT DEAD

Matthew 15:24  But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

A DEAD BODY

James 2:26  … the body without the spirit [breath] is dead [nekrov (not functional)], …

SPIRITUALLY DEAD

Ephesians 2:1  And you hath he quickened, who were dead [nekrov (not functional)] in trespasses and sins;

A BROTHER CAN ERR

James 5:19-20  Brethren, if any of you do err [astray, roam, deceived] from the truth, and one convert him (so he repents);  20  Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner (brother) from the error of his way shall save a (brother’s) soul from death [qanatov (loss of inheritance in the kingdom)], and shall hide a multitude of sins.

A BROTHER DEFINED

Matthew 12:50  For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother...

PLACE FOR DECEIVED BRETHREN

Revelation 1:18  I am he that liveth, … and have the keys of hell [adhv, grave] and of death [qanatov].

PERISHING SHEEP ARE STRAYING

Matthew 18:12-13  How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray [aorist passive], doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray [present passive, straying]?  13  And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray [perfect passive].

WHO ARE THE SHEEP

John 10:26-27  But ye (the house of Israel) believe [present active] not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.  27  My sheep hear [present active] my voice, and I know [present active] them, and they follow [present active] me:

SHEEP OUT OF CONTROL

Luke 15:3-4  And he spake this parable unto them, saying,  4  What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose [aorist active, apollumi, alive but out of control] one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost [perfect active, perishing, apollumi, not dead], until he find it?

 SAVE US: WE PERISH

Matthew 8:25  And his disciples (fishermen in a storm) came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save [deliver] us: we perish [present active, out of control].

SHEPHERD IN CONTROL AGAIN

Luke 15:3-7  And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders (shepherd is now in charge), rejoicing.  6  And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost [perfect active, apollumi, perishing, (out of the shepherd’s control)].  7  I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one (sheep that is a) sinner (doing that which is right in his own eyes) that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

THE COIN IS OUT OF CONTROL

Luke 15:8-10  Either what woman having (owning) ten pieces of silver, if she lose [aorist active subjunctive, apollumi, out of her control] one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?  9  And when she hath found it, (that which belonged to her) she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost [aorist active, apollumi, not in her control].  10  Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner (out of the master’s control) that repenteth (submits to their owner’s control).

NOT WILLING THAT ANY PERISH

2 Peter 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his [the] promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward (brethren, 1:10-11), not willing that any (brethren) should perish [apollumi, (out of control)], but that all should come to repentance.

THE PROMISE TO LOSE

1 John 2:25  And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal [age] life (in the millennium kingdom age).

BRETHREN, GIVE DILIGENCE

2 Peter 1:10-11  Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:  11  For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

BE NOT DECEIVED, LED ASTRAY

1 Corinthians 6:9-10  Know ye not that the unrighteous [unjust (sheep)] shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived [led stray, err]: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10  Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

WE CAN DECEIVE OURSELVES

1 John 1:8  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
