PHILIPPIANS 1:2

Wednesday Evening:  November 7, 2007

Text:  Philippians 1:1-5  Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:  2  Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.  3  I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,  4  Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,  5  For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;

GRACE

Philippians 1:2  Grace be unto you, and peace (to the churches, mercy to individuals), from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

THE WORD OF HIS GRACE

Acts 20:32  And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified .

CONTINUE IN GRACE

Acts 13:43  Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

CONTINUE IN THE FAITH/HOPE

Acts 14:22  Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

GRACE BY FAITH

Romans 5:2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

 GRACE, THE POWER OF CHRIST

2 Corinthians 12:9  And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

THE GOD OF ALL GRACE

1 Peter 5:10  But the God of all grace, … make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.

ABLE TO MAKE ALL GRACE ABOUND

2 Corinthians 9:8  And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency [contentment] in all things, may abound to every good work:

PEACE IS TO GUIDE THE HEART

Colossians 3:15-16  And let the peace of God rule [umpire] in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.  16  Let the word of Christ [or God] dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

ESTABLISH THE HEART WITH GRACE

Hebrews 13:9  Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; …

ISSUES OF LIFE FROM THE HEART

Proverbs 4:23  Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

ESTABLISH YOUR HEARTS

James 5:8  Be ye also patient [persevere]; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

GOD’S GRACE WAS NOT IN VAIN

1 Corinthians 15:10  But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

LET GRACE REIGN

Romans 5:21  … might grace (through faith) reign (preeminent, dominate) through righteousness (obedience) unto [leading to] eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

COMING TO THE THRONE OF GRACE

Hebrews 4:16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne (place of authority) of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find [also: get, obtain] grace to help in time of need.

 

Titus 3:7  That being justified [aorist nominative plural masculine participle, describing heirs]  justified by his grace, we should [may] be made [we may become, aorist passive subjunctive] heirs [nominative plural masculine] according to the hope of eternal [kingdom age] life.

My translation: “To the intent that we may become, by his grace (power of a kinsman), vindicated heirs, according to hope of agelasting life”

VINDICATED BY HIS GRACE

Romans 3:24  Being justified [present active participle, being vindicated] freely by his grace [power of the kinsman] through the redemption [household duty] that is in Christ Jesus:

BOAZ, KINSMAN REDEEMER

Ruth 2:10  Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?

 PEACE

Philippians 1:2  Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

MY PEACE I GIVE

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it (heart) be afraid.

JESUS KNEW THEIR FEAR

John 20:19  Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

PEACE TO BE BOLD

John 20:21  Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

PEACE GUARDS THE HEART AND MIND

Philippians 4:6-7  Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer (fellowship, worship) and supplication [expression of earnest need] with thanksgiving (knowing he knows what we need] let your requests (things desired) be made known unto God.  7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

THINK PEACEFUL THOUGHTS

Philippians 4:8-9  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think (with the mind) on these things.  9  Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

PERFECT PEACE

Isaiah 26:3  Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

GREAT PEACE

Psalms 119:165  Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

PURPOSE OF PEACE

Jeremiah 29:11  For I know the thoughts [purposes] that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts [purposes] of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

FEAR NOT LITTLE FLOCK

Luke 12:32  Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom
