Wednesday Evening:  October 17, 2007

Text:  Philippians 1:1  Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

LABOR OF LOVE

1 Corinthians 16:15  I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the first fruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted [aorist active indicative] themselves to the ministry of the saints,)

APPLICATION OF ADDICTION

Hebrews 6:10  For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered [aorist active participle] to the saints, and do minister [present active participle (application of ministry)].

APPLICATION OF FAITH

2 Corinthians 4:13  We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed [aorist active indicative (what we believe)], and therefore have I spoken [aorist active indicative (we talk about)]; we also believe [present active indicative, (what we continue to believe)], and therefore speak [present active indicative, (we continue to talk about)];

FAITH GIVES SUBSTANCE TO THINGS HOPE FOR

Hebrews 11:1-2  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  2  For by it the elders obtained a good report.

FAITH PLEASES GOD

Hebrews 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh [present middle participle] to God must believe [aorist active infinitive] that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek [present active participle (application of believe, evidence of faith)] him.

HOPE FROM HEARING THE WORD OF GOD

Romans 10:17  So then faith (substance of hope) cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Mysteries of the kingdom of God Luke 8:10-11).

APPLICATION OF FAITH

Matthew 13:23  But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth [present active participle, (continued to hear)] the word, and understandeth [present active, (application, up the word together)] it; which also beareth [present active indicative, (applying what you hear and understand)] fruit, and bringeth forth [present active indicative, (applying what you hear)], some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

FAITH MADE EFFECTUAL

1 Corinthians 15:17  And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

LOVE, CATALYST FOR FAITH

Galatians 5:6  For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

TO KNOW YOUR FAITH

1 Thessalonians 3:5  For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith (hope), lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.

PERFECTING YOUR FAITH

1 Thessalonians 3:10  Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

FAITH GROWTH, LOVE ABOUNDETH

2 Thessalonians 1:3  We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity [love] of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

CONTINUE IN THE HOPE

Colossians 1:22-23  In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:  23  If ye continue in the faith [gives substance to hope] grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, …

JUSTIFIED BY RECKONED FAITH

Romans 3:30  Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

ABRAHAM BELIEVED, AORIST

Romans 4:3  For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed [aorist active indicative] God, and it [faith] was counted [reckoned] unto him for righteousness.

FAITH CONTINUED TO BE RECKONED

Romans 4:5  But to him that worketh not, but believeth [present active participle, application of believing God)  on him (God the Father, v. 24) that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted [present middle, reckon] for righteousness.

FAITH RECKONED TO ABRAHAM

Romans 4:9  Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned [aorist passive] to Abraham for righteousness.

FATHER OF THOSE WHO BELIEVE

Romans 4:11  And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal [stamp, signet] of the righteousness of the (reckoned) faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe [present active participle, (those applying what they believe)], though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed [reckoned, (if they continue to apply what they believe)] unto them also:

STRONG IN FAITH - HOPE

Romans 4:20-24  He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith (hope), giving glory to God;  21  And being fully persuaded  that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.  22  And therefore it (faith) was imputed [aorist passive indicative, reckoned] to him for righteousness.  23  Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it (faith) was imputed [reckoned] to him;  24  But for us also, to whom it (faith) shall be imputed [present passive, reckoned], if we believe [present active participle] on him (God the Father) that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

FAITH AND BELIEVETH ARE EQUIVALENT

1 John 5:4-5  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.  5  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth [present active participle] that Jesus is the Son (our judge) of God?

APPROPRIATE THE OFFICE OF HIGH PRIEST

John 3:14-15  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up (as our high priest):  15  That whosoever believeth [present active participle (application of looking so as not to perish)] in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

APPLICATION

Numbers 21:9  And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. (snake bite can happen more than once)

APPLY WHAT YOU BELIEVE

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him (the Son God as high priest) should not perish (his inheritance in the kingdom of heaven), but have [(because they) esteem, regardeth] everlasting [age, (kingdom)] life.

HEIRS ACCORDING TO THE HOPE

Titus 3:7  That being justified (approved) by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal [age, (kingdom)] life.

APPLICATION OF FAITH

2 Corinthians 4:13  We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed [aorist active indicative (what we believe)], and therefore have I spoken [aorist active indicative (we talk about)]; we also believe [present active indicative, (what we continue to believe)], and therefore speak [present active indicative, (we continue to talk about)];
