Text: John 17:2 "As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him."
SALVATION OFFERED TO ALL
John 1:29 "The next day John ... saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."
Hebrews 2:9 "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, ... that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man."
Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Acts 16:30-31 "And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31. And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
John 15:16 "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen [elected] you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, ..."

DISCIPLES WILL COME TO HIM

Luke 14:27 "And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple."

Matthew 19:21-22 "Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions."
OF THE DISCIPLE
Luke 6:13 "...and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;" [APOSTLES = SENT FROM]
John 17:2-3 "As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."
John 6:35-37 "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh [PMP] to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth [PAP]on me shall never thirst. 36. But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. 37. All that the Father giveth me shall come [PMP] to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out."
John 6:39-40 "And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth [P.A.P.] on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day."
John 6:47 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth [PAP] on me hath everlasting life."
John 10:26-29 "But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28. And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand."
John 17:6 "I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept [GUARDED] thy word."
Before they were discipled by the Lord they were saved adult Jews who worshiped the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. As a children of God, Jesus could say in Matthew 4:10 "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." As disciples they belonged to the Father. "Thine they were."
John 17:9 "I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine."
John 17:12 "While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled."
SON OF PERDITION
Luke 6:13 "And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;"
Luke 6:16 "And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor."
JUDAS
Luke 14:26 "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."
Luke 14:27 "And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple."
Luke 14:33 "So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple."
LOST
The word "Lost" is the Greek word apollumi and means to perish or to lose ones life. The life that Judas lost was not his salvation, but life for the age.
2 Peter 1:10-12 "Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11. For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 12. Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth."
2 Peter 1:5-9 "And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6. And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7. And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins."
