IT CAME TO PASS

Sunday Morning - December 22, 1996

Read: Luke 2:1-12

Text: Matthew 1:22-23 "Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, [Isaiah, Isaiah 7:14] saying, 23. Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."

IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME

Galatians 4:4 "But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman [her seed Genesis 3:15], made under the law,"

Matthew -Jesus the Messiah, the king of Israel.

Mark - Jesus the servant.

Luke - Jesus the Son of Man.

Genealogy of Jesus Christ

In the genealogy of Joseph women are named (Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba), but in the genealogy of Mary only men are named.

The genealogy splits for Joseph and Mary in David’s family. Joseph is the natural regal line and Mary is the natural legal line. The regal lineage comes through Solomon the eldest surviving son of David and Bathsheba. The legal lineage came through Nathan the second surviving son of David and Bathsheba.

Two names are omitted in the regal lineage of Jesus Christ. Matthew 1:11 "And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:" Jehoiakim and his son Jechoniah between Josiah and Jechonias. 2 Chronicles 36:8 "...Jehoiakim, ... abominations which he did, and that which was found in (on) him, ... and Jehoiachin (Jeconiah in 1 Chronicles 3.16) his son reigned in his stead." Leviticus 19:28 "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD." It is believed that is was an idolatrous marks or tattoo on his skin.

Jechoniah whose name was changed to Coniah by cutting off the divine name "Je" (for Jah or Jehovah) Jeremiah 22:24 "As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;" Jechoniah was cut off. Jeremiah 22:30 "Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah." If Jesus was the son of Joseph, He could not prosper on the throne of his father David.

JESUS HAD TO BE VIRGIN BORN OR HE COULD NOT PROSPER ON HIS FATHER DAVID’S THRONE.

SOWN ACCORDING TO FOREKNOWLEDGE

1 Peter 1:1-2 "Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the [ELECT] strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2. Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied."

John 15:16 "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you."

WORKING TOGETHER
