Text: John 8:12 "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
John 3:19-21 "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into
the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their
deeds were evil. 20. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light,
neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved [EXPOSED].
21. But he that doeth truth cometh to the
light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought
in God."
Genesis 3:5-8 "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then
your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food,
and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a
tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the
fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did
eat. 7. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they
were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves
aprons. 8. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the
garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from
the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the
garden."
1 John 2:16 "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."
The lust of the flesh. Lusts, which have their base in our
sinful nature. lust of the eyes, which often leads to greed and
covetousness. pride of life. Vainglory, display, or
boasting about one's possessions.
James 1:14-16 "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away
of his own lust, and enticed. 15. Then when lust hath
conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth
forth death. 16. Do not err, my beloved brethren."
James 1:14: Vs. 1:14 drawn away . . . and enticed. The picture behind these words is that of the hunter or fisherman luring his prey from its safe retreat.
James 1:15: Vs. 1:15 The progression is frightening and certain: lust, sin, death (cf. Eve's temptation, Gen. 3:6-22).
James 1:16: Vs. 1:16 Do not err. Lit., Be not deceived. Used also in 1 Cor. 6:9; 15:33; and Gal. 6:7.
1 John 1:6-8 "If we say that we have fellowship with him, and
walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7. But if we
walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with
another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth
is not in us."
1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
1 John 2:9-11 "He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his
brother, is in darkness even until now. 10. He that loveth his
brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling
in him. 11. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and
walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that
darkness hath blinded his eyes."
John 10:27 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and
they follow me:"
Luke 9:59-60 "And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said,
Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60. Jesus said
unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of
God."
Luke 9:23-24 "And he said to them all, If any man will
come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross
daily, and follow me. 24. For whosoever will save his life
shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same
shall save it."
Matthew 4:19 "And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will
make you fishers of men."
John 12:26 "If any man serve me, let him follow me; and
where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me,
him will my Father honour."
1 John 1:3 "That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you,
that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is
with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ."
Psalms 1:1-2 "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the
counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the
seat of the scornful. 2. But his delight is in the law of the
LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night."
John 21:19-22 "...And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him,
[PETER] Follow me. 20. Then Peter, turning about, seeth the
disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at
supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 21. Peter seeing
him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
22. Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is
that to thee? follow thou me."
Ephesians 5:8 "For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye
light in the Lord: walk [present active] as children of light:"
Ephesians 5:11 "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them."
Ephesians 5:14-16 "Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 15. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16. Redeeming the time, because the days are evil."
