Text: John 7:23 "If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision,
that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have
made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?"
John 5:8-9 "Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked:
and on the same day was the sabbath."

none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?"
John 1:17 "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ."
2 Corinthians 3:6 "Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life."
Romans 5:13 "(For until the law sin was in the world: but
sin is not imputed when there is no law."
Romans 3:20 "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be
justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin."
Genesis 26:5 "Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my
charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws."
Romans 2:13-15 "(For not the hearers of the law are just
before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. 14. For
when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in
the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15. Which
show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also
bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else
excusing one another;)"
Romans 6:14 "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not
under the law, but under grace."
Romans 6:16 "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto [LEADING TO] righteousness?"
Romans 5:21 "That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto [LEADING TO] eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."
Galatians 5:4 "Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace."
1 Timothy 1:7-9 "Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding
neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. 8. But we know that the
law is good, if a man use it lawfully; 9. Knowing this, that the
law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for
the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers
and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,"
Colossians 2:16-17 "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in
drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath
days: 17. Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of
Christ."
Colossians 2:20-22 "Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the
rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to
ordinances, 21. (Touch not; taste not; handle not; 22.
Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of
men?"
The Sabbath appears in Scripture as the day of God's rest in the finished
work of creation (Gen 2:2 - 3). During the long period from Eden to Sinai, no
mention is made of it.
The Sabbath was revealed to Israel (Exo 16:23; Neh 9:13- 14),
Exodus 16:23 "And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning."
Nehemiah 9:13-14 "Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments: 14. And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:"
Made a part of the law (Exo 20:8 - 11),
Exodus 20:8-11 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
A "sign" between the LORD and Israel, (Exo 31:13 -17).
Exodus 31:13-17 "Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. ...15. ... Israel shall keep the sabbath, ...for a perpetual covenant. 17. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever..."
The Sabbath is mentioned in Acts only in connection with the Jews, and in the balance of the N.T. but twice (Col 2:16; Heb 4:4).
Romans 14:4-5 "Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. 5. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind."
