ROMANS 13:8-10

Text:  Romans 13:8-10  Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.  9  For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  10  Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

WHO IS BEING ADDRESSED?

Romans 13:8  Owe [due] no man any thing [nothing], but to love one another: for he that loveth another (beloved, called, saint) hath fulfilled the law.

THE HEART OF LOVE

1 Corinthians 13:4-7  Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth (other’s place) not; charity vaunteth (brag) not itself, is not puffed up,  5  Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;  6  Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;  7  Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

LOVE PURIFIES THE SOUL

1 Peter 1:22  Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned [without hypocrisy] love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

GIVEN TO THE APOSTLE, DISCIPLES

1 John 3:11  For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

FROM THE BEGINNING

John 13:33-35  Little children [teknion (apostles, disciples)], … 34  A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.  35  By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

THE COMMANDMENT, LOVE ONE ANOTHER

1 John 3:23  And this is his [the] commandment, That we should believe [present active subjunctive] on the name (the word of God, kingdom) of his Son Jesus Christ, and [should] love [present active subjunctive] one another, as he gave us commandment.

LOVE, NOT HURT YOUR NEIGHBOR

Romans 13:9  For this (fulfilling the law, v.8), Thou shalt not [emphatic] commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

AVENGE NOT

Leviticus 19:18  Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children [sons] of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour (thy people) as thyself: I am the LORD.

WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR?

James 4:11-12  Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.  12  There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another [thy neighbor (Vaticanus)]?

A CERTAIN MAN IS OUR NEIGHBOR

Luke 10:29-30  But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?  30  And Jesus answering said, A certain [5100, somebody] man [444, man (NT26)] went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

A CERTAIN SAMARITAN

Luke 10:33  But a certain [5100, somebody] Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

WAS A NEIGHBOR

Luke 10:37  And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

WOMAN WITH AN ISSUE OF BLOOD

Luke 8:46  And Jesus said, Somebody [certain, 5100] hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

BOASTING TO BE SOMEBODY

MULTITUDE OF IMPOTENT FOLK

John 5:3  In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting …

A CERTAIN MAN

 John 5:5  And a certain man (as the one from Jerusalem) was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

JESUS MINISTERED ONLY TO HIM

John 5:8  Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

A CERTAIN MAN, SHEPHERD

Matthew 18:12  How think ye? if a [certain] man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?

CERTAIN MAN OF NOBLE BIRTH

Luke 19:12  He said therefore, A certain noble man went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

DO NOT HURT YOUR NEIGHBOR

Romans 13:10  Love worketh [present middle (for myself) no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

YOUR ENEMIES

Matthew 10:36  And a man's foes [enemies] shall be they of his own household.

THOSE WHO HATE THE LORD

2 Chronicles 19:2  And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD (Ahab, house of Israel. not Judah)? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD.

TO ALL, ESPECIALLY TO THE HOUSEHOLD

Galatians 6:10  As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

FIRST COMMANDMENT

Matthew 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

SECOND COMMANDMENT

Matthew 22:39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour [the (particular) neighbor of thee] as thyself.

THE NEIGHBORS ARE MEMBERS

Ephesians 4:25  Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his [the] neighbour: for we are [present active] members one [plural] of another [plural].

Ephesians 5:30  For we are members (Church) of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

ASSURANCE OF AGELASTING LIFE

1 John 3:14  We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

LOSS OF AGELASTING LIFE

1 John 3:15  Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

THE COMMANDMENT, LOVE YOUR BROTHER

1 John 4:21  And this [the] commandment have we from him, That he who loveth [present active] God love [present infinitive] his [the] brother also.
