ROMANS 11:20-24

Sunday Morning:  November 19, 2006

Text:  Romans 11:20-25  Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high minded, but fear:  21  For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.  22  Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.  23  And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.  24  For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?  25  For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in

FAITH OR NO FAITH

Romans 11:20  Well; because of unbelief [no faith, faithlessness] they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high minded [present active imperative], but fear [present active imperative]:

UNBELIEF THE OPPOSITE OF FAITH

Romans 4:20  He (Abraham) staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief [no faith, faithlessness]; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

MESSAGE TO BRETHREN

Hebrews 3:12  Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief [no faith, faithlessness], in departing from the living God.

NO FAITH NO HOPE

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

NO EVIDENCE OF THE HOPE

Hebrews 4:2  For unto us was the gospel (of His rest) preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

LOST DESIRE TO PLEASE

Hebrews 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

DENIED A BETTER INHERITANCE

Hebrews 3:19  So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief [no faith, faithless].

SEVENTH DAY, THE MILLENNIUM

Hebrews 4:9  There remaineth therefore a rest [sabbath, seventh day rest] to the people of God.

GIVE DILIGENCE TO ENTER THAT REST

Hebrews 4:11 Let us labour [give diligence] therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief [disobedience, apathy] .

STAND BY FAITH

Romans 11:20  Well; because of unbelief [no faith, faithlessness] they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high minded [present active imperative], but fear [present active imperative]:

FAITH TO ENDURE TRIBULATION

Acts 14:22  Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

ESTEEM FAITH

1 Timothy 1:19  Holding [present active of ecw, esteem, regard] faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:

AGAIN, CONTINUE IN THE FAITH

Colossians 1:23  If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, …

SOME WILL DEPART FROM THE FAITH

1 Timothy 4:1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

WARNING TO GENTILE BRANCHES

Romans 11:21  For if God spared [aorist middle] not [mh] the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare [future middle] not [mh] thee.

TAKE HEED LEST WE FALL

1 Corinthians 10:12  Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

MAKE YOUR CALLING AND ELECTION SURE

2 Peter 1:10  Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall [stumble]:

GOODNESS AND SEVERITY

Romans 11:22  Behold [consider] therefore the goodness [kindness] and severity  of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee (Gentile olive branch), goodness [kindness], if thou continue [present active subjunctive] in his goodness [kindness]: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off [future passive].

GOD’S GOODNESS LEADS TO CHANGE

Romans 2:4  Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness [kindness] and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness [kindness] of God leadeth thee to repentance?

CONTINUE NOT IN UNBELIEF

Romans 11:23  And they also, if they (natural branches) abide [present active subjunctive] not still in unbelief  [no faith, faithlessness], shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them (broken) in again.

WE CAN REPENT

Romans 11:29  For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

THE LORD IS LONGSUFFERING

2 Peter 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

LIVING BRANCHES ARE GRAFTED

Romans 11:24  For if thou (Gentiles) wert cut out (prepared for grafting, not broken off ) of the olive tree which is wild (of the field) by nature, and wert graffed [aorist passive] contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these (broken branches need repair), which be the natural branches, be graffed [future passive] into their own olive tree?

EXAMINE YOURSELVES

2 Corinthians 13:5  Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
