ROMANS 10:1-4

Sunday Morning:  October 1, 2006

Text:  Romans 10:1-4  Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.  2  For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.  3  For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.  4  For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

THEY MIGHT BE SAVED

Romans 10:1  Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is [Nt omits], that they might be saved.

REMNANT SHALL BE SAVED

Romans 9:27  Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant (Israelites) shall be saved:

A REMNANT IN PAUL’S DAY

Romans 11:5  Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election…

NOT ALL ISRAEL ARE THE REMNANT

Romans 9:6  Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel [Israelites in Bezae ms]:

WHO ARE ISRAELITES?

Romans 9:4  Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption [placed as a firstborn son], and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

ISRAEL HATH NOT ATTAINED

Romans 9:31-32  But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.  32  Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law…

THE ONE BELIEVING

Romans 9:33  . . . [the one] believeth [present active participle, believing] on him (the rock) shall not be ashamed [humiliated, disgraced].

EVERYONE THAT BELIEVETH

Romans 10:11  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth [present active participle, believing] on him shall not be ashamed [humiliated, disgraced].

BELIEVE AND CONFESS, PRESENT TENSE

Romans 10:10  For with the heart man believeth [present active (this is faith)] unto [leading to] righteousness (which is of faith); and with the mouth confession [present active, (evidence of faith)] is made unto [leading to] salvation.

CONFESS WHAT IS IN THE HEART

Romans 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (enter into the kingdom of heaven)

IN THE HEART FIRST THEN OUT

Matthew 15:18  But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; . . .

BE SAVED

Matthew 19:23-25  Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.  24  And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.  25  When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?

SALVATION IN CHRIST

2 Timothy 2:10  Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

THEY HAVE AN IGNORANT ZEAL

Romans 10:2-3  For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge [epignwsiv, exact knowledge].  3  For they being ignorant of God's righteousness (by believing, present tense, which is  faith), and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

THEY WILL HAVE TO BE WON

1 Corinthians 9:19-22  For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain [win] the more.  20  And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain [win] the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain [win] them that are under the law;  21  To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain [win] them that are without law.  22  To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain [win] the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

WON BY TEACHING

2 Timothy 2:24-26  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle [kind] unto all men, apt [able] to teach, patient [when wronged],  25  In meekness instructing [present active] those that oppose themselves [present middle]; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging [epignwsiv, exact knowledge] of the truth;  26  And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him [the devil] at (to do) his will.

CHRIST, THE END OF THE LAW

Romans 10:4  For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth [present active participle].

RATHER, CHRIST IS RISEN AGAIN

Romans 8:34  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

CHRIST DID NOT DIE IN VAIN

Galatians 2:21  I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS

Colossians 2:14  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

A MAN IS JUSTIFIED BY PLEASING GOD

Galatians 3:11-12  But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.  12  And the law is not of faith:

BEFORE FAITH, LAW

Galatians 3:23-24  But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.  24  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

CHRIST MADE FAITH EFFECTUAL

1 Corinthians 15:17  And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

NO FAITH NO GRACE

Galatians 5:4-5  Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.  5  For we through the (Abba) spirit [out from faith] wait [present active] for the hope of righteousness by faith.

GOD RAISED CHRIST FROM THE DEAD

Hebrews 5:5-6  So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.  6  As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

TO THE JEW FIRST

Acts 9:20  And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.
