ROMANS 9:11

Sunday Morning:  August 13, 2006

Text:  Romans 9:11  (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

FEW CALLED OUT

Matthew 22:14  For many are called, but few are chosen [eklektov, called out]. (called out of the called)

SAVED THEN CALLED

2 Timothy 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world [ages] began,

FOREKNOWLEDGE FIRST

Romans 8:29-30  For whom (saved) he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son (see Eph. 1:5 “adoption” uioqesia to  placed as a son), that he (Christ) might be the firstborn among many brethren.  30  Moreover whom (those he foreknew) he did predestinate (to be sons, Eph. 1:5), them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

CONFORMED TO HIS SON’S IMAGE

Ephesians 1:5  Having predestinated us (whom he foreknew) unto the adoption of children [uioqesia, singular, place as a son] by [dia, by means of] Jesus Christ to himself (the Father), according to the good pleasure of his (the Father’s) will,

BIRTHRIGHT INHERITANCE

Ephesians 1:11  In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated (see Eph. 1:5 “adoption” uioqesia to  placed as a son) according to the purpose of him (the Father) who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

LITTLE CHILDREN

Luke 18:16-17  But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.  17  Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

APOSTLES WERE LITTLE CHILDREN

John 13:33  Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.

GOD GAVE CHRIST LITTLE CHILDREN

Hebrews 2:13  And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the [little] children which God (the Father) hath given me.

I WILL DECLARE THY NAME

Hebrews 2:12  Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.

JESUS CALLED HIM BY NAME

John 17:1  These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, . . .

THE FATHER CHRIST AUTHORITY

John 17:2  As thou (Father) hast given [aorist active indicative] him power over all flesh, that he should [may] give [aorist active subjunctive] eternal [age-lasting] life to as many as thou hast given [perfect active] him.

THINE THEY WERE

John 17:6  I have manifested thy name (Father) unto the men which thou gavest [aorist active indicative] me out of the world (Israel): thine they were [imperfect tense, continuous action in the past], and thou gavest [aorist active indicative] them me; and they have kept thy (the Father) word.

THOSE GIVEN TO CHRIST WERE THE FATHER’S

John 17:9-10  I pray [present active] for them: I pray [present active] not [ou] for the world (Israel), but for them which thou hast given [perfect active] me; for they are thine.  10  And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

KEPT THROUGH THE FATHER’S NAME

John 17:11  And now I am no more in the world (Israel), but these are in the world (Israel), and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name (Father) those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

NONE OF THEM PERISHED BUT JUDAS

John 17:12  While I was with them in the world (Israel), I kept them in thy name (Father): those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost [perished, aorist middle], but the son of perdition [destruction (Judas)]; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

WHOM THOU HAST GIVEN ME

John 17:24  Father, I will [present active] that they also, whom thou hast given [perfect active indicative] me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

I WILL RAISE HIM UP

John 6:35-40  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh [present middle participle] to me shall (may) never hunger [aorist active subjunctive]; and he that believeth [present active participle] on me shall never thirst.

36  But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.

37  All that the Father giveth [present active indicative] me shall come [future active] to me; and him that cometh [present middle participle] to me I will in no wise cast out [aorist active subjunctive].

38  For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

39  And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given [perfect active] me I should lose [perish] nothing, but should raise [stand again] it up again [stand again] at the last day.

40  And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth [present active] (by faith) the Son (high priest), and believeth [present active participle] on him (the Son), may have [present active subjunctive, regard] everlasting [age-lasting] life: and I will raise him up at the last day. (comes with life in the kingdom age)

MAKE YOU STAND FAULTLESS

Jude 1:24  Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present [make you stand] you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

NO MAN CAN COME TO ME

John 6:44  No man can [present passive] come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw [aorist active] him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

REGARDETH AGELASTING LIFE

John 6:47  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth [present active participle] on me hath [present active of ecw, regard] everlasting [age, (kingdom age)] life.

WHEN FOREKNOWLEDGE WAS USED

John 6:64-65  But there are some of you that believe [present active] not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed [present active participle] not [mh, may not], and who should betray him.  65  And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can [present active, able] come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

MY FATHER GAVE THEM TO ME

John 10:27-29  My sheep hear [present active] my voice, and I know [present active] them, and they follow [present active] me:  28  And I give [present active] unto them eternal [agelasting (kingdom)] life; and they (the sheep that hear and follow) shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.  29  My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

MAKE SURE YOU DON’T FALL

2 Peter 1:10-11  Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:  11  For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting [agelasting] kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
