ROMANS 8:31-34

Sunday Morning:  June 25, 2006

Text:  Romans 8:31-34  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?  32  He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?  33  Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.  34  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

WHAT SHALL WE THEN SAY

Romans 8:31  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

LIST OF THESE THINGS

Romans 8:30  Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified [honored].

WE HAVE NOTHING TO SAY

Job 40:8  Wilt thou also disannul [annul, make void] my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

ARE WE AGAINST GOD

Romans 9:20  Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

THE LORD IS GOOD

Matthew 20:15-16  Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?  16  So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen. Mat. 22:14

WE ARE NOT OUR OWN

1 Corinthians 6:19-20  What? know ye not . . . ye are not your own?  20  For ye are bought with a price: . .

IF GOD BE FOR US

Romans 8:31  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

“US and WE” ARE THE “WHOM” IN 8:30

Romans 8:30  Moreover whom [plural] he did predestinate, them [plural] he also called: and whom [plural] he called, them [plural] he also justified: and whom [plural] he justified, them [plural] he also glorified.

HE CHOSE US

John 15:16  Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

“AGAINST US” IS FUTURE

Romans 8:31  What shall we then say [future active] (then) to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

THOSE AGAINST PAUL AT THE TIME

2 Timothy 2:9  Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

ALEXANDER THE COPPERSMITH

2 Timothy 4:14  Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works

GOD WAS FOR JOB

Job 1:8-10  And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

SATAN AGAINST JOB

9  Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

GOD HAD PROTECTED JOB

10  Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

SATAN STIRRED GOD AGAINST JOB

Job 2:3  And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

DELIVERED HIM UP

Romans 8:32  He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

DELIVERED FOR OUR OFFENCES

Romans 4:25  Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

WHILE SINNERS CHRIST DIED

Romans 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

WITH HIM

Romans 8:32  He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

AS OUR HIGH PRIEST

Hebrews 4:14  Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

GOOD THINGS TO COME

Hebrews 9:11  But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, . .

ASK IN MY NAME

John 14:13-15  And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  14  If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.  15  If ye love me, keep my commandments.

HIS NAME, THE WORD OF GOD

Revelation 19:13  And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

THE SEED, THE WORD OF GOD

Luke 8:10-11  And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.  11  Now the parable is this: The seed (that is sown) is the word of God.

THAT YOUR JOY MAY BE FULL

John 16:23-24  And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.  24  Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

GOOD, FAITHFUL, PROFITABLE

Matthew 25:23  His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

IF OUR HEARTS CONDEMN US NOT

1 John 3:21-23  Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.  22  And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.  23  And this is his commandment, That we should believe [present active] on the name (the Word of God) of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

NOT CHARGEABLE BEFORE GOD

Romans 8:33-34  Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth [present active].  34  Who is he that condemneth [present active]? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is [present active] even at the right hand of God, who also maketh [present active]  intercession for us.

HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST

1 John 1:7-9  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.  8  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  9  If we confess [present active] our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
