ROMANS 8:17

Sunday Morning:  May 14, 2006

Text:  Romans 8:16-17  The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:  17  And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.  18  For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

TO BE COME A CHILD

Acts 16:30-31  And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?  31  And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and (and anyone in) thy house.

A CHILD OF GOD IS BORN FROM ABOVE

John 3:3  . . . Except a man be born again [from above], he cannot see the kingdom of God.

A CHILD STARTS WITH MILK

1 Peter 2:1-2  Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,  2  As newborn babes, desire the sincere [pure] milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

THE AUTHORITY TO MATURE

John 1:12  But as many as received [aorist active indicative] him, to them gave [aorist active indicative] he power to become [aorist infinitive, implies potential] the sons [teknon, mature children] of God, . .

A MATURE CHILD

Luke 2:48-49  And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son [teknon, mature child], . . .  49  And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist [know] ye not that I must be about my Father's business? (or in my Father’s house)

CHILDREN NEED MILK

Hebrews 5:12  For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

MILK TEACHES FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS

Hebrews 6:1  . . .  repentance from dead works, (of the flesh) and of faith [faithfulness] toward God,

MILK TEACHES US NOT TO LIVING IN SIN

1 Corinthians 3:2-3  I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.  3  For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk [present active] as men?

MILK TEACHES THE JUDGMENT OF GOD

Ephesians 5:5-6  For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.  6  Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children [sons] of disobedience.

ZACHARIAS AND ELISABETH OBEYED

Luke 1:6  And they were both (Zacharias, Elisabeth) righteous [just] before God, walking [present middle] in all the commandments and ordinances [righteous acts, Rev 19:8] of the Lord blameless.

LOT WAS JUST

2 Peter 2:7-9  And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:  8  (For that righteous [just] man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous [just] soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)  9  The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust (unlawful, ungodly, disobedient) unto the day of judgment to be punished:

THE JUST NEED NO REPENTANCE

Luke 15:7  I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one (saved) sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

CORNELIUS WAS JUST

Acts 10:22  And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, . . .

CORNELIUS WAS ALSO GODLY

Acts 10:2  A devout [godly] man, and one that feared God with all his house (he was a teacher), which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

HE AND HIS HOUSE DESIRED TO LEARN

Acts 10:33  . . . Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee (Peter) of God.

THE JUST WILL BE REWARDED

Matthew 10:41  . .  he that receiveth a righteous [just] man in the name of a righteous [just] man shall receive a righteous [just] man's reward.

RECOGNIZED IN THE KINGDOM

Matthew 13:43  Then shall the righteous [just] shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

BEYOND MILK, THE BUTTER

IF GOD PERMITS

MANY VESSELS IN GOD’S HOUSE

2 Timothy 2:20  But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

APPOINTED FOR ISRAEL

1 Peter 2:8  And (Jesus) a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient [not persuaded]: whereunto also they (Israel) were appointed.

ON THE VESSELS OF HONOR

Romans 9:23  And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE

2 Timothy 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world [ages] began,

CALLED UNTO HIS GLORY

1 Thessalonians 2:12  That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

ONLY MANY CALLED

Matthew 22:14  For many (given ears to hear) are called, but few are chosen. [called out (of the called)]

CALLED TO AGELASTING GLORY

1 Peter 5:10  But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal [age-lasting] glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

FAITH, THE NEXT STEP

Hebrews 10:38  Now the just shall live by faith [future middle]: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

2 Thessalonians 2:14  Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

THE GOSPEL OF THE GLORY

2 Corinthians 4:4  In whom the god (Satan) of this world [age] hath blinded the minds of them which believe not (Paul’s gospel of glory), lest the light of the [gospel] glorious [of the glory] [the] gospel [the gospel of the glory] of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
