Text: Galatians
3:14-19
THE PROMISE TO ABRAHAM
Galatians 3:16-17 Now to Abraham and
his seed were the promises made. He
saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is
Christ. 17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of
God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot
disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
JESUS WAS BORN
Galatians 4:4-5 But
when the fulness of the time was
come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the
law, 5
To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the
adoption of sons.
SALVATION IN THE LAST TIME
1 Peter 1:4-5 To
an inheritance incorruptible, and
undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who
are kept by the power of God through
faith unto salvation ready to be revealed
in the last time.
OLD
TESTAMENT TYPE
Acts 7:17 But when
the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people
grew and multiplied in Egypt,
AT
THE TIME OF THE PROMISE, MOSES
Acts 7:20 In
which time Moses was born, . . .
GOD
REMEMBERED HIS COVENANT
Exodus 2:24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham,
with Isaac, and with Jacob.
GOD
REMEMBERED THE COVENANT
Psalms 105:8-15 He
hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded
to a thousand generations. 9 Which covenant
he made with Abraham, and his oath (law, 10) unto Isaac;
10 And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel [a
prince of God, Gen. 32:28, see Strong’s] for an everlasting [age-lasting] covenant: 11 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan (flowing with milk and honey),
the lot of your inheritance: 12
When they were but a few
men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it. 13
When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to
another people; 14 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he
reproved kings for their sakes; 15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed [ones, plural] (Israel),
. . .
MOSES
CAME TO DELIVER
Acts 7:25 For he supposed his brethren would have
understood how that God by his hand would [present active] deliver them: but they understood
not.
CHILDREN
CHOSEN OVER THE FATHERS
Deuteronomy 10:15 Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers
to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people,
as it is this day.
LITTLE
CHILDREN ALSO HAD JEWELS
Exodus 3:22 But every woman shall borrow of her
neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and
jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them
upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.
REBEKAH
HAD JEWELS
Genesis 24:53 And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold,
and raiment, and gave them to
Rebekah.
THE CHILDREN BECAME THE STARS
Deuteronomy 10:22 . . .now
the LORD thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.
MOSES,
A TYPE OF JESUS CHRIST
Acts 7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren,
like unto me; him shall ye hear.
BLESSING,
THE PROMISE
Galatians 3:14 That the blessing
of Abraham might come on the
Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might
receive the promise of the Spirit through
faith.
AGELASTING
LIFE
1 John 2:25 And this is the promise that he hath
promised us, even eternal [age-lasting] life.
GOD’S
COVENANT IS SECURE
Galatians 3:15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men;
Though it be but a man's covenant,
yet if it be confirmed, no
man disannulleth (cancel), or
addeth (change) thereto.
COVENANT
TO ABRAHAM
Hebrews 6:13-15 For when
God made promise [aorist participle, singular] to Abraham, because he could swear by no
greater, he sware by himself, 14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless
thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
15 And so, after he had
patiently endured [aorist, big dot], he obtained [Jam 4:2] the
promise [singular].
COVENANT
WITH ABRAHAM
Genesis 17:7-8 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting [age-lasting, lxx] covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to
thy seed after thee. 8 And
I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a
stranger, all the land of Canaan (flowing
with milk and honey), for an everlasting
[age-lasting, lxx] possession; and I will be their God.
THIS
IS MY COVENANT
Genesis 17:10 This is my covenant, which ye shall
keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
THE
SIGN OF CIRCUMCISION
Romans 4:11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised:
that he might be the father of all
them that believe [present active
participle], though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be
imputed unto them also:
TO
ABRAHAM’S ANOINTED SEED
Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham
and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds (Hagar,
Keturah), as of many; but as of one,
And to thy seed, which is Christ.
FROM
THE GREEK TEXT
Galatians 3:16 Now to the Abraham were spoken the promises, and to the seed of him. Not he says: And to the seeds (of Abraham) as concerning
many, but as concerning one. And to the seed of thee (of Abraham);
who is anointed.
COVENANT
CONFIRMED BEFORE THE LAW
Galatians 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in
Christ [omitted in Nestles], the
law, which was four hundred and
thirty years after, cannot disannul [invalidate], that it (the
law) should make the promise [inheritance, v.18] of none effect.
THE
INHERITANCE
Galatians 3:18 For if the
inheritance [the promise, v.17]
be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave [perfect
middle, for himself] it to Abraham by promise.
TILL
THE SEE SHOULD COME
Galatians 3:19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was
added because of transgressions, till the
seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained
by angels in the hand of a mediator.
THE
FULLNESS OF THE TIME
Galatians 4:4-5 But when the
fulness of the time was come,
God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made
under the law, 5 To redeem
them that were under the law, that
we might receive the adoption of sons [son-ship].
THE
TIME IS FULFILLED, THE PROMISE
Mark 1:14-15 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus
came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And
saying, The time is fulfilled, and
the kingdom of God is at hand: repent
ye, and believe the gospel.
THE
PROMISED INHERITANCE
Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in
the name (the word of God) of Jesus Christ for the remission of
sins, and ye shall receive the gift of [from] the Holy Ghost. 39 For [indeed] the promise is unto you, and
to your children, and to all that
are afar off, even as many
as the Lord our God shall call.
CALLED
UNTO HIS KINGDOM
1 Thessalonians
2:12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called
you unto his kingdom and glory.
WE
HAVE FOUND HIM
John 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the
prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, . . .
GOD
GAVE HIM THE LITTLE CHILDREN
Hebrews 2:13 . . . Behold I and the children [little children, the seed] which God hath given me.
THEY
WERE FLESH AND BLOOD
Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children [little children] are partakers of flesh and blood,
he also himself likewise took part of the same; . . .
HE
WAS OF ABRAHAM SEED
Hebrews 2:16 . . .he took on him
the seed of Abraham.
LITTLE
CHILDREN ENTER
Matthew 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be
converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
