ROMANS 8:2
Sunday
Morning: February 19, 2006
Text: Romans 8:1-5 There is therefore now no condemnation
to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the
Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ
Jesus hath made me free from the law of
sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was
weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful
flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the
law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the
Spirit. 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the
things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the
Spirit.
IS THE
LAW OF LIFE IN CHARGE?
Romans
8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
hath made me free from the law of [the] sin (lawlessness) and [the]
death.
THE
SPIRIT OF GOD’S SON
Romans
8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
A
SUBMISSIVE SPIRIT
Mark
14:36 And he
said, Abba, Father, all things are
possible unto thee; take away
this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
IS LAWLESSNESS
IS IN CHARGE?
Romans
8:2 For the law
of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of [the] sin (lawlessness) and [the] death. (loss of life in the kingdom age)
THE
STING OF THE DEATH
1
Corinthians 15:56 The
sting of [the] death is [the] sin; and the strength of [the] sin
is the [the] law.
“THE SIN” IS LAWLESSNESS
1
John 3:4 Whosoever committeth
[present active, practice] [the] sin transgresseth [practices,
present active] also the law [anomia, no law]: for [the]
sin is the transgression of the
law [anomia, lawlessness].
THE
LORD HATES LAWLESSNESS
Hebrews
1:9 Thou hast
loved righteousness, and hated iniquity
[lawlessness]; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
SERVANTS
OF SIN?
Romans
6:16-18 Know ye
not, that to whom ye yield [present active]
yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey [present
active]; whether of sin unto [leading to] death, or of obedience unto [leading
to] righteousness? 17 But
God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the
heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18
Being then made free [aorist passive] from [the] sin (lawlessness), ye became the servants of [the]
righteousness.
DELIVERANCE
FROM SINS
Ephesians
1:7 In whom we have
[present active] redemption
through his blood, the forgiveness [afesiv, liberty,
deliverance] of sins, according to the riches of his grace (power of Christ); see Col. 1:14; Rev 1:5
THE WILL OF THE FATHER
Matthew
7:21 Not every
one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter
into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
MANY,
NOT ALL ARE LAWLESS
Matthew
7:22 Many will say to me in that
day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied
in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy
name done many wonderful works?
WORKING
LAWLESSNESS
Matthew
7:23 And then
will I profess unto them, I never knew
[aorist active, allowed (Rom 7:15)] you:
depart from me, ye that work [present
middle, worketh for themselves] iniquity
[lawlessness].
THE
SIN IS DEFINED
1
John 3:4 Whosoever committeth
[present active, practice] [the] sin transgresseth [practices,
present active] also the law [anomia, no law]: for [the]
sin is the transgression of the
law [anomia, lawlessness].
PRACTICE
OF LAWLESSNESS
Hebrews
10:26 For if we sin
[present active, practice sin] wilfully
after that we have received the knowledge [epignwsiv, exact knowledge] of the truth [the Word of God, the Word of
the kingdom], there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, (wilfully
practiced)
OLD
TESTAMENT EXAMPLE
Numbers
15:30-31 But the
soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be
born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from (stoned to death) among his people. 31 Because he hath despised the word of the
LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon
him. (no sacrifice covered this sin)
IT
TAKES ABIDING IN HIM
1
John 3:6 Whosoever abideth [present active] in him sinneth [present active] not:
whosoever sinneth [present active]
hath not seen [perfect active] him, neither known [perfect active] him.
WARNING
TO LITTLE CHILDREN
1
John 3:7 Little
children, let no man deceive [present
active imperative] you: he that doeth
[present active, practices] righteousness
is righteous [just], even as
he is righteous.
LITTLE
CHILDREN ENTER
Matthew
18:3 And said,
Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter
into the kingdom of heaven.
THE
WILL OF THE FATHER
John
6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me,
that every one which seeth [present
active, observe] the Son, and believeth
[present active] on him, may have
everlasting life (enter into the kingdom of heaven): and I will
raise him up at the last day.
LAWLESSNESS
IF OF THE DEVIL
1
John 3:8 He that committeth [present active, practice]
[the] sin is of the
devil; for the devil sinneth [present active] from
the beginning. For this purpose the Son
of God (our high priest) was
manifested, that he might destroy [subjunctive, may loosen]
the works of the devil. (that we become lawless)
HIS
SEED ABIDETH IN HIM
1
John 3:9 Whosoever
is born [begotten] of [out from the] God doth not commit [present active,
practice] sin; for [oti, because] his
seed remaineth [present active, abideth, resident] in him: and he
cannot sin [present active, sinneth], because he is born [begotten] of [out from
the] God.
HIS
SEED
1
Peter 1:23 Being born again [perfect passive, having been begotten again] (only
here and 1:3), not of corruptible seed,
but of incorruptible (seed),
by the word of God, which liveth and
abideth for ever.
MYSTERIES OF THE KINGDOM
Luke 8:10-11 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the
kingdom of God:
. . . 11
Now the parable is this: The seed
is the word of God.
BEGOTTEN
AGAIN TO A LIVING HOPE
1
Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ, which according
to his abundant mercy hath begotten
us again unto a lively [present active] hope
by [dia, by means of] the resurrection of Jesus Christ (the
Son of God) from the dead,
VICTORY
THROUGH CHRIST
1
Corinthians 15:57 But
thanks be to God, which giveth [present active] us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Son of God our high
priest).
FAITH
IS THE VICTORY
1
John 5:4 For
whatsoever is born [perfect
passive, having been begotten] of
[out from the] God overcometh [present active] the
world: and this is the victory that overcometh [aorist active] the
world, even our faith.
