ROMANS 6:9-13

Sunday Morning:  November 20, 2005

Text:  Romans 6:9-14  Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.  10  For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.  11  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.  12  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.  13  Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.  14  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

DYING TO SELF TO REIGN WITH HIM

Romans 6:8  Now if (conditional) we (reckon, Rom 6:11) be dead [aorist, have died] with Christ, we believe that we shall also live [future active] with him:

DEATH IS TO BE RECKONED

Romans 6:11  . . . reckon ye [present middle imperative] also yourselves to be dead [present active] indeed unto [dative, to the] sin, but alive [present active, living] unto God through [en, by means of] Jesus Christ our Lord.

TO LIVE WITH HIM IS TO REIGN

2 Timothy 2:11-12  It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead [aorist active, have died] with him, we shall also live [future active] with him:  12  If we suffer [present active, endure], we shall also reign [future active] with him: if we deny [future middle] him, he also will deny [future middle] us:

THE CROSS IS PASSED

Romans 6:9  Knowing [perfect active] that Christ being raised [aorist passive] [out] from [ek] the dead [plural, ones] dieth [present active] no more; death (physical) hath no more dominion [present active] over him.

DIETH NO MORE

John 4:47  When he (nobleman) heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death [present active indicative].

THE PLACE OF DYING, THE CROSS

John 12:32-33  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.  33  This he said, signifying what death he should die [present active].

RAISED AND GIVEN GLORY

1 Peter 1:21  Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

CHRIST DIED ONCE

Romans 6:10  For in that he (Christ) died [aorist active indicative], he died [aorist active indicative] unto [dative case, for the] sin once: but in that he liveth [present active], he liveth [present active] unto [dative, with] God.

AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD

Romans 8:34  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died [aorist active indicative], yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession [present active indicative] for us.

RECKON YOURSELVES TO BE DEAD

Romans 6:11  Likewise [in this way] reckon ye [present middle imperative] also yourselves to be dead [present active infinitive] indeed unto [dative case, to the] sin, but alive [present active participle, living] unto [dative case, to/for the] God through [en, by means of] Jesus Christ [cristov ihsouv, emphasis on Christ (our high priest)] our Lord (under his authority, not lawless).

OUR HIGH PRIEST

Hebrews 4:14-15  Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed [perfect active] into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast [present active subjunctive] our profession.  15  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

LET NOT THE SIN REIGN

Romans 6:12  Let [then] not [mh, may not] [the] sin therefore reign [present active imperative] in your mortal body, that ye should [to] obey [present active infinitive] it in the lusts thereof (body).

LOSS OF AGELASTING LIFE

Romans 5:21  That as [the] sin hath reigned unto death (loss of agelasting life), even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
