ROMANS 5:2

Sunday Morning:  July 10, 2005

Text:  Romans 5:2-5  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.  3  And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;  4  And patience, experience; and experience, hope:  5  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

GRACE BY WHOM?

Romans 5:2  By whom (our Lord Jesus Christ, v.1) also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

SUBSTANCE IS HIS GRACE

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

PLEASING GOD

Hebrews 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

EVIDENCE OF FAITH

Hebrews 4:15-16  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come [present middle, not just one time] boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace (his power) to help in time of need.

THIS GRACE

Romans 5:2  By whom (our Lord Jesus Christ) also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice [present middle, boast] in hope of the glory of God.

THE WORD OF HIS GRACE

Acts 20:32  And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified [clean, consecrated, dedicated, hallowed, holy].

GRACE, THE POWER OF CHRIST

2 Corinthians 12:9  And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

JESUS HAS BEEN GIVEN ALL POWER

Matthew 28:18  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

POWER TO THE ONES BELIEVING

Ephesians 1:19-20  And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe [the ones believing, present active participle], according to the working of his mighty power,  20  Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

GREAT POWER, GREAT GRACE

Acts 4:33  And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

BE STRONG IN GRACE

2 Timothy 2:1  Thou therefore, my son, be strong [present imperative]  in the grace that is in [by] Christ Jesus.

GRACE MULTIPLIED BY KNOWLEDGE

2 Peter 1:2  Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge [epignowsiv, (knowledge upon knowledge)] of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

WE NEED TO CONTINUE IN GOD’S GRACE

Acts 13:43  . . . Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them (saved Jews and Gentiles), persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

GRACE FOR GRACE USED

John 1:16  And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

GRACE CAN BE WASTED

2 Corinthians 6:1  We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

THE GOD OF ALL GRACE

1 Peter 5:10  But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal [agelasting] glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

HOPE OF THE GLORY

Romans 5:2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand [abide, continued, stanch (unmovable, faithful)], and rejoice [present middle, boast, to vaunt] in hope of the glory of God.

LIVING HOPE

1 Peter 1:3-5  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  4  To [for] an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,  5  Who are kept by the power of God (his grace) through faith unto (so great) salvation (not common salvation) ready to be revealed in the last time.

CHRIST IN US THE HOPE OF GLORY

Colossians 1:26-27  Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:  27  To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

WE HOPE GOD WILL GIVE US GLORY ALSO

1 Peter 1:21  Who by him (Jesus Christ) do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

HOPE OF LIFE FOR THE AGE

Titus 3:7  That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (glory)

PROMISED HOPE OF GLORY

Titus 1:1-2  Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;  2  In hope of eternal [age] life (glory), which God, that cannot lie, promised (to the elect) before the world began; (when they were chosen)

ESTEEM GRACE

Luke 17:7-10  But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle (serving), will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field (work is done), Go and sit down to meat?  8  And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me (no rest, continue to serve), till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?  9  [mh, may not] Doth [regard, esteem] he thank [grace] that servant (who came in from the field) because he did the things that were commanded him? (he was just) I trow not. 10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

THE FINAL WORD

Revelation 22:21  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
