GIVING OURSELVES

Sunday Morning:  November 16, 2003

Text: Galatians 6:2-6  "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 3. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 4. But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5. For every man shall bear his own burden. 6. Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things."

OTHERS!

The story has often been told about the message the founder of the Salvation Army sent to their international convention. General William Booth was unable to attend personally because of ill health, so he cabled the delegates a message containing one word: “OTHERS!”

BEAR OTHER’S BURDENS

Galatians 6:2  "Bear [present active imperative] ye one another's burdens (very heavy), and so fulfil the law (commandments) of Christ."

HEAVY LOAD

Matthew 20:12  "Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day."

A NEW COMMANDMENT

John 13:34  "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."

MY COMMANDMENT

John 15:12  "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you."

BY LOVE SERVE ONE ANOTHER

Galatians 5:13-14  "For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 14. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

OTHERS

Romans 15:1  "We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves."

DECEIVED

Galatians 6:3  "For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself."

THESE

Galatians 2:6-7  "But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man's person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me: 7. But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;"

THEY

Galatians 4:17  "They zealously affect [desire] you, but not well; yea, they would exclude (peer pressure) you, that ye might affect [desire] them."

THEY CONSTRAIN YOU

Galatians 6:12-13  "As many as desire to make a fair show in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. 13. For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh."

Romans 12:3  "For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith."

PROVE YOUR WORK

Galatians 6:4  "But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another."

PROVE ALL THINGS

1 Thessalonians 5:21  "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."

PROVE WHAT IS GOOD

Romans 12:2  "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

LIGHTER BURDEN

Galatians 6:5  "For every man shall bear [present active] his own burden."

HIS BURDEN IS LIGHT

Matthew 11:30  "For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

EXPECTED BURDEN

Luke 14:27  "And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple."

NO WORK NO FOOD

2 Thessalonians 3:10-13  "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 11. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 12. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. 13. But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing."

WORK

Ephesians 4:28  "Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth."

COMMUNICATE

Galatians 6:6  "Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things."

     LIVING OF THE GOSPEL

LABOR IN WORD AND DOCTRINE

1 Timothy 5:17-18  "Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 18. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward."

LABORER REJOICES

Philippians 4:10  "But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity."

ROBBING GOD

Malachi 3:8-9  "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation."
