CHURCHES OF GALATIA

Text: Galatians 1:1-5  "Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) 2. And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: 3. Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, 4. Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: 5. To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."

BELIEVE TO BE SAVED

Galatians 2:16  "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified."

JUSTIFIED BY FAITH

Galatians 3:11  "But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith."

FIRST MISSIONARY JOURNEY

Acts 13:14  "But when they departed from Perga (of Pamphylia, south of Galatia), they came to Antioch in Pisidia (Roman province of Galatia), and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down."

THEN TO ICONIUM

Acts 14:1  "And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed [aorist active infinitive]."

THEN TO LYSTRA AND DERBE

Acts 14:6  "They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:"

MESSAGE OF PAUL

Acts 13:16  "Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience."

JOHN THE BAPTIST PREACHED

Acts 13:23-24  "Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour [deliverer], Jesus:

24. When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel."

KINGDOM MESSAGE

Matthew 3:1-2  "In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, 2. And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

BAPTISM OF REPENTANCE

Mark 1:4  "John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins."

SELECT AUDIENCE

Acts 13:26  "Men and brethren, children [sons] of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent."

OF FAITH ARE BEING SONS

Galatians 3:7  "Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children [sons] of Abraham."

RAISED FROM THE DEAD

Acts 13:30  "But God raised him from the dead:"

REMEMBER THE PROMISE

JUSTIFICATION

Romans 4:25  "Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification."

THE PROMISED INHERITANCE

Acts 13:32-33  "And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, "

THE PROMISE DEFINED

1 John 2:25  "And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal [agelasting kingdom] life."

TO THE CHILDREN

33. God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee."

KINGDOM PROMISE

Acts 2:38-39  "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift (the promise, v. 39) of the Holy Ghost. 39. For the promise is unto you, and to your children (Israel), and to all that are afar off (Gentiles), even as many as the Lord our God shall call."

CALLED TO ETERNAL LIFE

1 Timothy 6:12  "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, . . ."

JUSTIFICATION

Acts 13:39  "And by him all that believe [present active participle] are justified [present passive indicative] from all things, from which ye could not be justified [aorist passive infinitive] by the law of Moses."

GENTILES RESPOND

Acts 13:42  "And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath."

THE WORD OF GOD

Acts 13:46-48  "Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God (mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, Luke 8:10-11)should first have been spoken to you (Jews): but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles (who had been excluded Mathew 10:5,6).

SO GREAT SALVATION

47. For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

NOW GENTILES

48. And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord [the Word of the God, other ms]: and as many as were ordained [perfect passive participle] to eternal life believed."

CONTINUE IN THE FAITH

Acts 14:22  "Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God."

PLEASING GOD

Hebrews 11:6  "But without faith it is impossible to please him: . . ."

OUR AMBITION

2 Corinthians 5:9-10  "Wherefore we labour [ambition], that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted [pleasing] of him. 10. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad [evil]."
