BY FAITH MOSES SUFFERED
Sunday Morning:
April 7, 2002
Text:
Hebrews 11:24-26 "By faith Moses,
when he was come to years, refused
[middle voice] to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
25.
Choosing
[middle voice] rather to suffer
[present middle]
affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for
a season;
26.
Esteeming [middle voice] the reproach
of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect
[imperfect] unto the recompense
of the reward."
Hebrews 11:1
"Now faith is the substance (reward, inheritance in the land)
of things hoped for, the evidence (chose rejection and affliction)
of things not seen."
1 John 2:15-16
"Love not the world, neither the things
that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father
is not in him. 16. For all that is in the world, the lust
of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride
of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."
Hebrews 10:32-36
"But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye
were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;
33. Partly, whilst ye were made a gazing stock both by reproaches
and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of
them (the people of God) that were so used. 34. For ye
had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your
goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring
substance. 35. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which
hath great recompense of reward. 36. For ye have
need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might
receive the promise."
Hebrews 11:6
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he
that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a
rewarder of them that
diligently seek him."
Hebrews 2:2
"For
if the word spoken by angels (messengers) was stedfast, and
every transgression and
disobedience received a just
recompense of
reward;"
2 Corinthians 5:9-11
"Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may
be accepted of him. 10. For we must all appear before the judgment seat
of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his
body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 11.
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made
manifest unto God;. . ."
2 Timothy 3:4-5
"Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of
God; 5. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from
such turn away."
Isaiah 47:8
"Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to
pleasures, that dwellest
carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside
me;. . ."
Luke 12:16-21
"And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain
rich man brought forth plentifully: 17. And he thought
within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to
bestow my fruits? 18. And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my
barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods
laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink,
and be merry. 20. But God said unto him, Thou
fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall
those things be, which thou hast provided? 21. So is he that
layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."
Proverbs 23:4-5
"Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. 5.
Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches
certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle
toward heaven."
Matthew 6:19-21
"Lay not up for yourselves
treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where
thieves break through and steal: 20. But lay up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and
where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21. For where your
treasure is, there will your
heart be also."
Luke 8:10-14
"And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the
kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see,
and hearing they might not understand. 11. Now the parable is this: The
seed is the word of God. 12. Those by the way side are they that
hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts,
lest they should believe and be saved. 13. They on the rock are
they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no
root, which for a while believe [present active],
and in time of temptation fall
away. 14. And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when
they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and
riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no
fruit to perfection."
Acts 14:22
"Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to
continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter
into the kingdom of God."
2 Thessalonians 1:4-5
"So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your
patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:
5.
Which is
a
manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted
worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also
suffer:"
2 Corinthians 12:10
"Therefore I take
pleasure in infirmities,
in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in
distresses for Christ's sake.."
2 Corinthians 4:17 "For our light
affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more
exceeding and eternal weight of glory;"
1 Peter 4:12-14
"Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to
try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13. But
rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's
sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also
with exceeding joy. 14. If ye be reproached for
the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God
resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he
is glorified."
Matthew 5:10-12
"Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness'
sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11. Blessed
are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute
you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is
your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were
before you."
