Text:
Hebrews 7:19 "For the
law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better
hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God."
Hebrews 5:14
"But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age,
even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern
both good and evil."
Hebrews 10:21-25
"And having an high priest over the house of God; 22.
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed
with pure water. 23. Let us hold fast the profession [confession]
of our faith [hope] without wavering; (for he
is faithful that promised;) 24. And let us consider one
another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25. Not forsaking the
assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but
exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day
approaching."
Hebrews 4:1-2
"Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of
entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2.
For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word
preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard
it."
Psalms 78:1-8
"Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to
the words of my mouth. 2. I will open my mouth in a parable: I
will utter dark sayings of old: 3. Which we have heard and known, and
our fathers have told us. 4. We will not hide them from their
children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his
strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. 5. For he
established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in
Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them
known to their children: 6. That the generation to come might know
them, even the children which should be born; who should
arise and declare them to their children: 7. That they might
set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep
his commandments: 8. And might not be as their fathers, a
stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set
not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast
with God."
Psalms 16:5-11
"The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance
and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. 6. The lines (of my
inheritance) are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a
goodly heritage. 7. I will bless the LORD, who hath given me
counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. 8. I have
set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand,
I shall not be moved. 9. Therefore my heart is glad, and my
glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. 10. For thou wilt
not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see
corruption. 11. Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence
is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for
evermore."
Lamentations 3:21-26
"This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 22. It is
of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions
fail not. 23. They are new every morning: great is thy
faithfulness. 24. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul;
therefore will I hope in him. 25. The LORD is good unto
them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. 26. It is
good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the
salvation of the LORD."
Joshua 2:18
"Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this
line [hope] of scarlet thread in the window which thou
didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy
brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee."
Joshua 2:21
"And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And
she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet
line [hope] in the window."
Psalms 147:11
"The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those
that hope in his mercy."
Psalms 33:18-22
"Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon
them that hope in his mercy; 19. To deliver their soul from
death, and to keep them alive in famine. 20. Our soul waiteth
for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. 21. For our heart
shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. 22.
Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee."
Psalms 42:1-5
"As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my
soul after thee, O God. 2. My soul
thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before
God? 3. My tears have been my meat day and night, while they
continually say unto me, Where is thy God? 4. When I remember
these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the
multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and
praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. 5. Why art thou cast
down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope
thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his
countenance."
Jeremiah 17:7-8
"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose
hope the LORD is. 8. For he shall be as a tree planted by the
waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not
see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful
in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit."
Jeremiah 29:11-13
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected [hope]
end [a future]. 12. Then shall ye call upon
me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will
hearken unto you. 13. And ye shall seek me, and
find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
Psalms 62:5-8
"My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation
[hope] is from him. 6. He only is my
rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall
not be moved. 7. In God is my salvation and my glory:
the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
8. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour
out your heart before him: God is a refuge
for us. Selah."
