DISORDERLY BROTHER

Sunday Morning:  November 19, 2000

Read: 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15

2 Thessalonians 3:6-7 "Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. 7. For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;"

MY BROTHER

Mark 3:35  "For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother."

THE WILL OF THE FATHER

Matthew 12:50  "For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother."

WILL ENTER THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

Matthew 7:21  "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."

WITHDRAW FROM THE DISORDERLY

2 Thessalonians 3:6-7 "Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. 7. For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;"

IT WILL SPREAD

1 Corinthians 5:6-7  "Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? 7. Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:"

DO NOT ASSOCIATE WITH THEM

1 Corinthians 5:9-11  "I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: 10. Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 11. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat."

INCENTIVE

2 Thessalonians 3:10-13  "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 11. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 12. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. 13. But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing."

SWEAT

Genesis 3:19  "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return."

WORK TO GIVE

Ephesians 4:28  "Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth."

COMMANDED TO WORK

1 Thessalonians 4:11  "And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;"

DO GOOD TO THE HOUSEHOLD

Galatians 6:10  "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith."

A BROTHER IN NEED

1 John 3:17  "But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?"

Acts 20:35  "I have showed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive."

A SLUGGARD’S PLIGHT

Proverbs 24:30-34  "I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; 31. And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. 32. Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. 33. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: 34. So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man."

NOTE THAT MAN

2 Thessalonians 3:14  "And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed."

WARN THEM

1 Thessalonians 5:14  "Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded [fainthearted], support [help] the weak, be patient toward all men."

ADMONISH A BROTHER

2 Thessalonians 3:15  "Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother."

AN ERRING BROTHER

James 5:19-20  "Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; 20. Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins."

GIVE DILIGENCE BRETHREN

2 Peter 1:10-11  "Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11. For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting [agelasting] kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."
