APPROVING YOUR FAITH

Sunday Morning: January 9, 2000

Text: 2 Corinthians 13:5 "Examine [prove, try] yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates [adokimov, not approved]?"

APPROVED

James 1:12 "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried [dokimos, approved], he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him."

BE DILIGENT TO BE APPROVED

2 Timothy 2:15 "Study [give diligence] to show [present] thyself approved [dokimos] unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing [cutting straight] the word of [the] truth."

DO THE RIGHT THING

NOT SELF APPROVAL

WHO IS A REPROBATE

2 Timothy 3:8 "Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith."

PROVE YOURSELVES

2 Corinthians 13:5 "Examine [examine as in 1 Cor 11:28] yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove [dokimazw, present active imperative] your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?"

STUDY OF THE WORD

SELF EXAMINATION

WORKETH PATIENCE

James 1:2-4 "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3. Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience [upomonh, endurance]. 4. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."
