Text: Romans 14:5-23
BE FULLY PERSUADED
Romans 14:5 One man esteemeth [present active, judge] one day above another: another esteemeth [present active, judge] every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded [present imperative, assure] in his own mind.
BOTH CAN THANK GOD
Romans 14:6 He that regardeth [present active participle] the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth [present active], eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth [present active] not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
LIVING OR DYING, WE ARE THE LORDíS
Romans 14:7-9 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. 8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead [adjective] and living.
REMEMBER OUR COMING JUDGMENT
Romans 14:10 But why dost thou judge [present active] thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought [present active, despise] thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
JUDGE NOTHING BEFORE THE TIME
1 Corinthians 4:4-5 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord. 5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
WE WILL GIVE AN ACCOUNT
Romans 14:11-12 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
Romans 14:13 Let us not therefore judge [present active] one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put [present active] a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall [offence] in his brother's way.
ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM
Matthew 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children (a brother), ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
WARNING ABOUT OFFENDING
Matthew 18:6 But whoso shall offend [scandalize] one of these little ones which believe [present] in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
PAUL WAS PERSUADED
Romans 14:14 I know, and am persuaded [perfect passive] by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth [reckon, count] any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
TO OFFEND IS TO DESTROY
Romans 14:15-16 But if thy brother be grieved [present passive} with thy meat, now walkest [present] thou not charitably [love]. Destroy [present imperative, cause him to perish] not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. 16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of:
THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS Ö
Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not [emphatic]
meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace,
and joy in
the Holy [adjective] Ghost
[in spirit holy].
SERVE IN RIGHTEOUSNESS, PEACE AND JOY
Romans 14:18 For he that in these things serveth [present active participle] Christ is acceptable [well pleasing, adjective, nominative case] to God, and approved [adjective, nominative case] of men.
PURSUE PEACE AND EDIFICATION
Romans 14:19 Let us therefore follow after [present active, pursue, persecute] the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
PURSUE PEACE AND HOLINESS
Hebrews 12:14 Follow [present active, pursue, persecute] peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
O MAN OF GOD PURSUE Ö
1 Timothy 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow [present active, pursue, persecute] after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
TO BE FOUND OF HIM IN PEACE
2 Peter 3:13-14 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
PEACE AFTER GRACE AND MERCY
2 Timothy 1:2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
DESTROY NOT THE WORK OF GOD
Romans 14:20 For meat destroy [present active imperative], not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth [present active participle] with offence.
THE WORK OF GOD
John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe [present active subjunctive] on him (Jesus Christ) whom he (Father) hath sent.
DO NOT MAKE YOUR BROTHER WEAK
Romans 14:21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth [present], or is offended [present], or is made weak [present].
Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
WORK OF SATAN IS TO OFFEND
Matthew 16:22-23 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. 23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
YE HAVE DONE IT UNTO ME
Matthew 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
DONíT CONDEMN YOURSELF
Romans 14:22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth [present active participle] not himself in that thing which he alloweth [present active indicative, approve].
THOSE WHO OFFEND ARE OUT
Matthew 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
AVOID THE OFFENDER
Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
NOT OF FAITH, IT IS SIN
Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth [present middle participle] is damned [judged, sentenced] if he eat [aorist active subjunctive], because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
THE LAW IS NOT OF FAITH
Galatians 3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
