Text: Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
US
Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? . . .
US, WHO WALK AFTER THE SPIRIT
Romans 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us,
who walk [present active participle] not after [according
to] the flesh, but after [according to] the
Spirit. (Abba spirit of submission)
ASSURANCE OF BEING IN THE FAMILY
Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
KNOWS THE VALUE OF SUFFERING
Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
THOSE WHO KNOW THEY ARE WEAK
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
CHRIST INTERCEDES FOR US
Romans 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
THOSE ANTICIPATING SON-SHIP
Romans 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption [place as a son], to wit, the redemption of our body.
THE LOVE OF CHRIST
Romans 8:35 Who [or what] shall separate [future active] us from [away from] the love of Christ? . . .
OUR/HIS LOVE
John 14:21 He that hath [ecw, present active participle, regardeth] my commandments, and keepeth [present active participle, guards] them, he it is that loveth [present active] me: and he that loveth [present active] me shall be loved [future passive] of my Father, and I will love [future active] him, and will manifest [future active, to make known] myself to him.
IF A MAN LOVE ME
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love [present active subjunctive] me, he will keep [future active, guard] my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
ABIDE IN HIS LOVE
John 15:10 If ye keep [aorist active subjunctive, may guard] my commandments, ye shall abide [future] in my love; even as I have kept [perfect active, guard] my Father's commandments, and abide [present active] in his love.
THIS IS THE LOVE OF GOD
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep [present act. subjunctive may guard] his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
TRIALS
Romans 8:35-36 . . . shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written (Psa. 44:22), For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
SOME WILL NOT ENDURE
Matthew 13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. (fall away in Luke 8:13)
PERSECUTIONS AND TRIBULATIONS
2 Thessalonians 1:4-5 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:
PAUL TOOK PLEASURE IN PERSECUTIONS
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
WE CAN BE OVERCOMERS
Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors [present active indicative, exceeding overcomers] through [dia] him (Jesus Christ) that loved us.
HE THAT BELIEVETH OVERCOMES
1 John 5:5 Who is he that overcometh [present active participle] the world, but he that believeth [present active participle] that Jesus is the Son of God?
AGAIN, INCENTIVE
Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh [present active participle] will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame [aorist active], and am set down with my Father in his throne.
OVERCOMERS BECOME SONS
Revelation 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
PAUL WAS PERSUADED
Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from [apo] the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
SATAN WOULD DEFEAT US
Ephesians 6:10-12 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world [age], against spiritual wickedness in high places.
SOW TO THE THINGS OF SPIRIT
Galatians 6:8-9 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the (Abba) Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting [agelasting]. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
WE CAN BEAR THE TRIALS
1 Corinthians 10:12-13 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13 There hath no temptation [trial, (adversity)] taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted [tested] above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
NOT WILL THAT WE SHOULD PERISH
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
