Text:  Romans 8:10-15  And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  11  But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.  12  Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.  13  For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.  14  For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.  15  For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

SPIRIT OF CHRIST IN YOU

Romans 8:9-10  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be [if indeed] that the Spirit of God (not the Holy Spirit, judgment and purpose of God, 1 Cor 7:40) dwell [present active] in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ (not the Holy Spirit, submission to the will and purpose of God, v.15; Mar 14:36), he is none of his.  10  And if Christ be in you (spirit of Christ, context), the body is dead because of sin; but the [that] Spirit (spirit of Christ) is life [alive] because of righteousness (lifestyle of obedience).

IF WE LIVE IN THE SPIRIT OF GOD

Romans 8:11  But if (conditional) the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead [nekov] (that spirit of God, v.9) dwell [present active] in you, he (God, 1 Pet 1:21) that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken [revitalize, Strong’s] your mortal bodies by [dia, through, by means of] his [the] Spirit (the Holy Spirit, neuter) that [the] dwelleth [present active neuter participle, (adjective) one dwelling] in you.

FAITH IN THE FUTURE WORK OF GOD

Colossians 2:12  Buried (being dead to self) with him (Christ) in baptism, wherein (baptism) also ye are risen [aorist passive, were raised] (present experience) with him through the faith (gives substance to things hoped for) of (in) the operation [effectual  working] of God, who hath raised him from the dead (to a new life).

NEWNESS OF LIFE

Romans 6:4-5  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into [the] death [qanatov (Abba, Father)]: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by [dia, (purpose) for the sake of] the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk [aorist (big dot) active subjunctive] in newness of life.  5  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his [the] death [qanatov, (Abba, Father)], we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection (of glory and honor):

GOD RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD

1 Peter 1:21  Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead [nekrov], and gave him (Jesus Christ) glory; that your faith and hope (of glory) might be in God.

THE HOPE OF GLORY, A MYSTERY

Colossians 1:26-27  Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints (of Israel):  27  To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles (saints); which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (mystery):

IF WE LIVE IN THE FLESH

Romans 8:12-13  Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.  13  For if (conditional) ye live [present active] after the flesh, ye shall [present active. to about to, going] die [present active infinitive, to perish, perishing]: but if (conditional) ye through the Spirit (of Christ) do mortify [present active, put to death] the deeds of the body, ye shall live [future active] (kingdom life, not salvation life, a present possession).

SEEK THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE ABOVE

Colossians 3:1-5a  If ye then be risen with Christ, seek [present active imperative] those things which are above, where Christ setteth [present active] on the right hand of God.  2  Set your affection [present active imperative] on things above, not on things on the earth.  3  For ye are dead (now), and your life (now) is hid with Christ in God.  4  When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear [future passive] with him in glory.  5  Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth;  . . .

LED BY SPIRIT OF GOD

Romans 8:14-15  For as many as are led [present passive] by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption [son-ship], whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

THE SAME SPIRIT

Galatians 4:6-7  And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.  7  Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

PAUL, NOT A SON BUT A SERVANT

Philippians 1:1  Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus . . .

CHILDREN NOT SONS

Romans 8:16  The Spirit (Holy Spirit) itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children [teknon, mature children] of God:

 SONS RULE AS JUDGES

Psalms 82:6  I have said, Ye are gods [judges]; and all of you are children [sons] of the most High.

YE ARE GODS

John 10:34-35  Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?  35  If he called them gods, unto whom (Israel) the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

WAITING FOR THE SONS OF GOD

Romans 8:19  For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth [present middle] for the manifestation of the sons of God.

CHILDREN NOT SONS

1 John 3:2-3  Beloved, now are we the sons [children] of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him (sons); for we shall see him as he is (the son of God). 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

PAUL HAD NOT ATTAINED

Philippians 3:12  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after [present active], if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

THOSE LED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD

Revelation 21:7  He that overcometh [present active participle] shall inherit [future active] all things; and I will [future middle be his God (judge)], and he shall be [future mid. indicative] my son.

TO HIM THAT OVERCOMETH

Revelation 3:21  To him that overcometh [present active] will I grant [future active] to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

SPIRIT OF SON-SHIP

Mark 14:36  And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

JESUS FINISHED HIS WORK

John 4:34  Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him (Father) that sent me, and to finish his work.

IT IS FINISHED

John 19:30  When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

JESUS FINISHED

Hebrews 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the (daily) cross, despising the shame (of not enduring his cross), and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
