Text: Matthew 5:29-30 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish [apollumi, aorist middle, lost], and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell [gehenna]. 30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish [apollumi, aorist middle, lost], and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell [gehenna].

“SPRINGDALE — University Hospital surgeons reattached a meat plant worker's hand Sunday after it was severed at the wrist in a mixing machine.
Surgery took 11 hours and appeared to be successful, but Sylvester Walker's prospects for a full recovery are unknown, according to one of the orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Tom Kiefhaber.
Mr. Walker, 21, of Springdale was listed in serious condition. He had started his third-shift job at Copaz Packing Corp., 801 East Kemper Road, when the injury occurred at 12:34 a.m.
When Springdale Emergency Medical Services arrived, Mr. Walker was alert “but in shock,” fire/emergency medical services Capt. Ralph Richey said. “They (co-workers) had a tourniquet ... pressure, and the hand was in a bag.”
Dr. Kiefhaber said that was the correct procedure in the crucial seconds after an amputation. The viability of severed limbs varies, but generally, a finger can be successfully reattached up to 24 hours after the injury. A hand, with larger muscles that more quickly worsen without blood flow, must be reattached within eight to 10 hours.
The key, Dr. Kiefhaber said, is the first few minutes:
Stay calm. Have someone call your local emergency number.
Bandage the wound and apply pressure to stop the bleeding.
Wrap the severed limb in a clean, moist sponge or washcloth, then put it in a plastic bag. Put that bag in another filled with ice water — not just ice. Limbs need to be “cooled” but mustn't freeze.
Hand-reattachment surgery entailed the reconnection of two major arteries, four veins, four nerves, six tendons that work the wrist, and 14 tendons that allow the fingers to bend. The first goal is to stabilize the bones and repair the tendons, then nerves, Dr. Kiefhaber said.
Then blood vessels are reconnected using a microscope that magnifies the vessels to 20 times their size.
Most reattached hands regain about 80 percent mobility, albeit with some loss of feeling. “
The hand begin to perish when it was severed from the arm.
THE DEAD ARE BURIED
Acts 5:10 Then fell she (Sapphira) down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
SEEK THE PERISHING
Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost [apollumi, perfect active participle, perishing].
PERISHING SHEEP
Matthew 10:5-7 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost [apollumi, perfect active participle, perishing] sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
SHEEP AND GOATS ARE SAVED
Numbers 18:17 But the firstling of a cow, or the firstling of a sheep, or the firstling of a goat, thou shalt not redeem; they are holy: . . .
MY SHEEP
John 10:27-28 My sheep hear [present active indicative] my voice, and I know [present active indicative] them, and they follow [present active indicative] me: 28 And I give [present active indicative, minister] unto them eternal [age] life; and they shall never perish [aorist middle subjunctive] [for the age], neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
THE PERISHING ARE NOT DEAD
Matthew 18:11-14 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost [apollumi, perfect active participle, having begun to perish]. 12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray [aorist passive subjunctive], doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh [present active indicative] that which is gone astray [present passive participle]? 13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish [aorist middle subjunctive].
LITTLE CHILDREN ENTER THE KINGDOM
Matthew 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children [paidion], ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
THESE BELIEVE IN THE PRESENT TENSE
Matthew 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe [present active participle] in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
NONE BUT ONE PERISHED
John 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest [perfect active indicative] me I have kept, and none of them is lost [apollumi, aorist middle indicative, perished], but the son of perdition [apwleia, noun form of apollumi]; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
OLD TESTAMENT TYPE
Jude 1:5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved [delivered] the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed [apollumi, aorist active indicative, he caused to perish] them that believed [aorist] not.
FORTY YEARS TO PERISHED
Hebrews 3:17-19 "But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief."
NOT MIXED WITH FAITH
Hebrews 4:1-2 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
IF FAITH IS VAIN WE WILL PERISH
1 Corinthians 15:17-18 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished .
HE THAT BELIEVETH MAY NOT PERISH
John 3:13-16 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up (heaven): 15 That whosoever believeth [present active participle] in him should not perish [aorist middle subjunctive, perish for themselves], but have [ecw, present active subjunctive, may regard] everlasting [agelasting] life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth [present active participle] in him should not [mh, may not] perish [aorist middle subjunctive, perish for themselves], but have [ecw, present active subjunctive, may regard] everlasting [agelasting] life."
PAUL’S PREACHING
1 Corinthians 1:17-18 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 18 For the preaching [logov] of the cross (our daily cross, Luke 9:23) is to them (that have life) that perish [present middle participle, perishing] foolishness; but unto us which are saved [present passive participle, are being delivered] it is the power of God.
PAUL’S GOSPEL
2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid [being veiled] to them that are lost [apollumi, present middle participle, perishing for themselves]:
OUR GOSPEL
2 Thessalonians 2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining [purchase] of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
PAUL’S GOSPEL KEPT SECRET
Romans 16:25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
PERISH TODAY OR PERISH TOMORROW
Luke 9:23-25 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose [apollumi, perish, future active indicative] it (NOW): but whosoever will lose [apollumi, aorist active subjunctive] his life (NOW) for my sake, the same shall save it (THEN). 25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose [apollumi, perish, aorist active participle] himself, or be cast away [aorist passive participle] (same as to perish)?
NOT WILLING ANY OF US SHOULD PERISH
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his [the] promise (agelasting life), as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any (of us) should perish [apollumi, aorist middle infinitive], but that all should come to repentance.
