Text: Romans 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
ADAM, TYPE OF CHRIST
Romans 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure [tupov, types, like a statue, or style, model for imitation or an incident for warning, en- (ex-) samples] of him (Jesus Christ) that was to come.
INCIDENTS FOR WARNING
1 Corinthians 10:6, 9-11 Now these things were our examples [tupov, types, like a statue, or style, model for imitation or an incident for warning], to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. . . . 9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. 10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. 11 Now all these things happened unto them (Israel) for ensamples [tupov, types]: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world [ages, plural] are come.
WRITTEN FOR OUR LEARNING
Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
A GREAT CLOUD OF TYPES
Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
DAYS OF NOAH A TYPE
Luke 17:26-27 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
ENOCH TAKEN BEFORE NOAH’S DAYS
Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated (removed as in Gen. 2:21 God took Adam’s rib) that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
ENOCH DID NOT DIE
Genesis 5:23-24 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: 24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took [lxx, translated] him.
DAYS OF LOT A TYPE
Luke 17:28-30 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
ABRAHAM WAS WITH THE LORD
Genesis 18:22-23 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. 23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
CONTRAST ADAM AND CHRIST
1 Corinthians 15:21-22 For since by man (Adam) came death, by man (Christ) came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
ADAM BECAME POOR
2 Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye (Eve) through his poverty might be rich. (regain which was lost)
THE LAMB OF GOD
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
TO TAKE AWAY OUR SINS
1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
AS ADAM, SO CHRIST
Genesis 2:21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
MADE ADAM’S BRIDE
Genesis 2:22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
EVE WAS THE BONE AND FLESH OF ADAM
Genesis 2:23 And Adam said, This is now bone [lxx, ek, out] of my bones, and flesh [lxx, ek, out] of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
MEMBERS OF HIS BODY
Ephesians 5:30 For we (saints and faithful, vs. 1:1) are members of his body, [ek, out] of his flesh, and [ek, out] of his bones.
THE MANY
Romans 12:5 So we, being [the] many, are one body in Christ, . . .
EVE, A TYPE OF THE CHURCH
Ephesians 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church (bride), not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
CHOSEN FROM THE BODY OF CHRIST
Ephesians 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he (God the Father) hath chosen us (saints and faithful) in him (his body) before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
ISAAC, A TYPE OF CHRIST
Genesis 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
GOD WILL PROVIDE THE LAMB
Genesis 22:7-8 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? 8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
SARAH, A TYPE OF ISRAEL
Genesis 23:2 And Sarah died in Kirjatharba. . (‘city of four’ Anakims, who were Giants)
ISAAC’S BRIDE FROM FAMILY
Genesis 24:4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
ISAAC WAS AWAY FROM HIS HOUSE
Genesis 24:63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide:
AFTER SARAH DIED, ISAAC TO A WIFE
Genesis 24:67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.
