Text: Read Romans 2:17-25
Romans 2:17-20 Behold, thou art called [named] a Jew,
and restest in the law, and makest
thy boast of God, 18 And knowest his will,
and approvest the things that are
more excellent, being instructed out of the law; 19 And
art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them
which are in darkness, 20 An
instructor of the foolish, a teacher
of babes (unlearned), which hast the form [outward appearance] of knowledge and of the truth
in the law.
Romans 9:4-5
Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory,
and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; 5.
Whose are the fathers, and of
whom as concerning the flesh Christ
came, who is over all, God
blessed for ever. Amen.
Psalms 147:19-20 He
sheweth his word unto Jacob, his
statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
20.
He hath not dealt so with any
nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.
Luke 17:10 So
likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you,
say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
Hebrews 4:2
For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word
preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
Hebrews 11:28-30 Through
faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should
touch them. 29. By
faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land:
which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
30. By faith the walls of Jericho
fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
Hebrews 10:38
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man
draw back (faith), my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
Hebrews 11:6 But without
faith it is impossible to please him:
for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Romans
1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed
from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Romans 2:21-24 Thou therefore which teachest another,
teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? 22.
Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? (spirit
of idolatry, holding down truth) 23. Thou that makest thy boast of the law,
through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?
24. For the name of God is blasphemed
among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
Romans 1:18
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and
unrighteousness of men, who hold the
truth in unrighteousness;
Romans 2:1-3
Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest:
for wherein thou judgest another, thou
condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. 2. But we are sure that the judgment of God is
according to truth against them which commit such things. 3. And
thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Matthew 15:7-8 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy
of you, saying, 8. This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their
lips; but their heart is far from me.
Romans 2:23-25 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through
breaking the law dishonourest
thou God? 24. For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is
written. 25. For circumcision (outward testimony of
faith) verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of
the law, thy circumcision (hypocrisy) is made uncircumcision (no testimony).
Romans 4:8-13
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute [reckon]
sin. 9.
Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only,
or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned [imputed] to Abraham
for righteousness. 10. How
was it then reckoned? when he was in
circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. 11.
And he received the sign (outward
sign) of circumcision, a seal (outward
sign) of the righteousness of the
faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the
father of all them that believe [present
active], though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might
be imputed [reckoned] unto
them also: 12. And the
father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but
who also walk in the steps of that faith
of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. 13.
For the promise, that he should be the heir
of the world, was
not to Abraham, or to his seed, through
the law (being just alone), but through the righteousness of faith (being just and living by
faith).
Genesis
17:7-11 And I will
establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in
their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. 8. And
I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an
everlasting possession; and I will be
their God. 9. And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my
covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. 10. This is my covenant, which ye
shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among
you shall be circumcised. 11.
And ye shall circumcise the
flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token
(outward sign of the righteousness which is by faith, Rom 4) )of the covenant
betwixt me and you.
Romans 2:29
But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and
not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
Deuteronomy 10:16-17 Circumcise
therefore the foreskin of your heart,
and be no more stiffnecked.
17. For the LORD
your God is God [a judge]
of gods [judges], and Lord of
lords (in authority), a great
God [judge], a mighty, and a
terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor
taketh reward [that will blind a judge] :
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works
of the flesh (that comes
from an uncircumcised heart) are manifest, which are these; Adultery,
fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20. Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred,
variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21. Envyings,
murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before,
as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
