Text:  Read: Romans 1:19-32

WHY?

Romans 1:28-29  "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge [epiginwskw, deeper knowledge], God gave them over to a reprobate [disapproved] mind, to do [present active] those things which are not convenient [fit]; 29. Being filled with all unrighteousness [unjust, disobedience], . . ."

THEY KNEW THE CONSEQUENCES

Romans 1:32  "Who knowing the [just] judgment of God, that they which commit [present active, practice] such things are worthy of death [qanatov, (soul death)], not only do [present active, continue to do] the same, but have pleasure [present active, continued to think well] in them that do [present active, practice] them."

HOLD DOWN THE TRUTH

Romans 1:18  "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold [present active, hold down] the truth in unrighteousness;

REMOVED THE KEY OF KNOWLEDGE

Luke 11:52  "Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in [kingdom] yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered."

HOPE LEARNED FROM THE TRUTH

Colossians 1:5  "For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;"

THINGS TO COME

John 16:13  "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of [the] truth, is come, he will guide you into all [the] truth: . . . he will show you things to come."

 

THE TRUTH BLASPHEMED

2 Peter 2:2  "And many shall follow their pernicious [from the word to perish] ways; by reason of whom the way of [the] truth shall be evil spoken of [blasfhmew, blaspheme]."

SPEAK AGAINST HOLY SPIRIT

Matthew 12:32  "And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against (blaspheme) the Holy Ghost (the Spirit of truth), it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world [age], neither in the world to come [present active participle, the one (age) coming, the millennial kingdom age]."

THEM THAT HOLD DOWN THE TRUTH

Romans 1:19  “Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them (that hold down the truth); for God hath showed it unto them (that hold down the truth).

THEY HAD THE KNOWLEDGE

2 Peter 2:20-21  "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge [epignosiv, exact knowledge] of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them."

EARTHLY KINGDOMS

Romans 1:20 “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, (invisible things) being understood by the things that are made (things that are seen), even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they (that holding down the truth) are without excuse:”

INVISIBLE HEAVENLY KINGDOM

Colossians 1:16  "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:"

BECAME VAIN IN PURPOSE

Romans 1:21 “Because that, when they knew God, they (that holding down the truth) glorified [honor] him not as God (their judge), neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations [purpose], and their foolish heart (where decisions are made) was darkened.

THEY LOST THE FEAR OF GOD

Job 28:28  "And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding."

THEY BECAME FOOLS

Romans 1:22  “Professing themselves to be wise, they (those that holding down the truth) became fools,

THE FOOL

Psalms 14:1  "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God [or judge]. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good (that does not have the fear of God his judge in his heart)."

WISDOM OF THE WISE

1 Corinthians 1:19-20  "For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?"

THE THOUGHTS OF THE WISE ARE VAIN

1 Corinthians 3:19-20  "For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. 20. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain."

THEY BROUGHT GOD DOWN TO THEIR LEVEL

Romans 1:23 “And changed the glory [honor] of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four footed beasts, and creeping things.

THEY BECAME UNCLEAN

Romans 1:24  “Wherefore God also gave [put in prison Mat 4:12] them (that hold down the truth) up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

TOUCH NOT THE UNCLEAN

2 Corinthians 6:14-18  "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers [no faith]: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness [unjust]? and what communion hath light (the truth) with darkness (error)? 15. And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth [faithful] with an infidel [faithless]? 16. And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17. Wherefore come out from among them (the unclean), and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty."

BELOVED, CLEANSE YOURSELF

2 Corinthians 7:1  "Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."

MAN HONORING MAN AND NOT GOD

Romans 1:25  “Who changed the truth of God into a [the] lie, and worshipped and served the creature [man] more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

SHE TAUGHT YOU CAN’T TOUCH IT

Genesis 3:3  "But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die (qanatov in the lxx, perish)."

THE LIE

FALSE FREEDOM

Romans 1:26  “For this cause God gave [put in prison Mat 4:12] them (that hold down the truth) up unto vile [less honorable] affections [feelings]: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:"

WOMEN USURPING AUTHORITY

1 Timothy 2:12-15  "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

WOMAN’S NATURAL USE

15. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety."

A WOMAN’S PLACE

Titus 2:4-5  "That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5. To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God (the truth) be not blasphemed."

KINGDOM MESSAGE CORRUPTED

Matthew 13:33  "The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole (message) was leavened."

WOMEN WHO RULE

Isaiah 3:12  "As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths."

THE LUST OF BIBLE TEACHERS

Romans 1:27  "And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet."

HOMOSEXUALITY NOT ROMANS 1

1 Corinthians 6:9  "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither . . . effeminate [soft], nor abusers of themselves with mankind [one word, arsevokoitnv, men cohabiting in a bed],"

LUST OF THE SCRIBES AND PHARISEES

Matthew 23:5-7  "But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, 6. And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7. And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi."

DESIRE TO BE ACCEPTED

John 12:42-43  "Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: 43. For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God."

PEER PRESSURE FROM JERUSALEM

Galatians 2:12-13  "For before that certain came from James, he (Peter) did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision. 13. And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation."
