THE BLOOD OF CHRIST

Sunday Morning - April 27, 1997

Text: John 19:30 "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost."

BLOOD

John 19:34 "But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water."

PASSOVER THEN THE BLOOD

Hebrews 11:28 "Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them."

DIED FOR EVERY MAN

Hebrews 2:9 "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man."

ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS

Hebrews 10:12 "But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;"

Hebrews 13:12 "Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate."

ENTER THE HOLIEST BY THE BLOOD

Hebrews 10:19-20 "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20. By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;"

GENTILES MADE NIGH

Ephesians 2:13 "But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ."

THE HIGH PRIEST APPLIES THE BLOOD

Hebrews 9:11-12 "But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12. Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."

MERCY SEAT

Hebrews 4:15-16 "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."

MAY GRACE REIGN

Romans 5:21 "That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."

OBEDIENCE LEADS TO RIGHTEOUSNESS

Romans 6:16 "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto [resulting in NASB, leads to NIV] righteousness?"

THE BLOOD WORKS IN FELLOWSHIP

1 John 1:7-9 "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

LIBERTY THROUGH THE BLOOD

Hebrews 9:22 "... without shedding of blood is no remission."

Matthew 26:28 "For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."

Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance [remission] to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty [remission] them that are bruised [oppressed, downtrodden]

Leviticus 25:10 "And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family."

Revelation 1:5 "And from Jesus Christ, ... that loved us, and washed [RELEASED, NASB] us from our sins in his own blood,"

REDEMPTION THROUGH HIS BLOOD

Ephesians 1:7 "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness [remission] of sins, according to the riches of his grace;"

Colossians 1:14 "In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness [remission] of sins:"

JUSTIFIED BY HIS BLOOD

Romans 5:8-9 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."

MENDED THROUGHT THE BLOOD

Hebrews 13:20-21 "Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21. Make [mend, frame] you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."

FAITH IN HIS BLOOD

Galatians 2:16 "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified."

VICTORY THROUGH THE BLOOD

Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

Revelation 12:11 "And they overcame him [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death."
