ROMANS 15:5-12

Sunday Morning:  March 4, 2007

Text:  Romans 15:5-12  Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:  6  That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  7  Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.  8  Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:  9  And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name.  10  And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.  11  And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.  12  And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.

GOD OF PATIENCE

Romans 15:5  Now the God of patience [perseverance, steadfastness] and consolation [exhortation, encouragement] grant [give, aorist active optative] you to be likeminded [present active infinitive] one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

WORKS AND THOUGHT TOWARD US

Psalms 40:5  Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

HIS COMPASSIONS FAIL NOT

Lamentations 3:22-26  It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  23  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.  24  The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.  25  The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.  26  It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

MERCIFUL AND GRACIOUS

Psalms 103:8-10  The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.  9  He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.  10  He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

ACCORDING TO CHRIST

Matthew 20:27-28  And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:  28  Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

GRANT THAT WE HAVE ONE MIND

Romans 15:6  That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify [present active subjunctive] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

THAT THEY MAY BE ONE

John 17:22  And the glory (milk and honey) which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

BE LIKE MINDED

1 Corinthians 1:10  Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

ONE ACCORD, ONE MIND

Philippians 2:2  Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

WHEREFORE

Romans 15:7  Wherefore receive [present middle imperative] ye one another, as Christ also received [aorist middle indicative] us to the glory of God.

CHRIST RECEIVED US FROM THE FATHER

John 6:37  All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh [present middle] to me I will in no wise cast out.

CHRIST MINISTERED TO ISRAEL

Romans 15:8  Now I say [present active indicative] that Jesus Christ was [perfect passive] a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm [aorist active infinitive] the promises made unto the fathers:

OBSERVE THE LAW

Matthew 23:2-3  Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:  3  All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

TO FULFIL THE LAW

Matthew 5:17  Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

CONFIRMED THE PROMISES

Luke 1:72-74  To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;  73  The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,  74  That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,

JESUS MINISTERED TO ISRAEL

Luke 7:22  Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

YET REJECTED

Luke 17:25  But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.

CHRIST MINISTERED TO THE GENTILES

Romans 15:9-12  And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name.

VERSE 11

Psalms 117:1-2  O praise the LORD, all ye nations (Gentiles): praise him, all ye people.  2  For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.

WHO WERE EXCLUDED

Matthew 10:5  These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

GENTILES WERE HEALED

Mark 7:26-29  The woman was a Greek (gentile), a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.  27  But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.  28  And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's (Israel) crumbs.  29  And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.

MINISTERED TO SAMARITANS

John 4:40-41  So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.  41  And many more believed because of his own word;

NO SCHISM IN THE BODY

1 Corinthians 12:25-26 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.  26  And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
