ROMANS 3:25

Sunday Morning: May 22, 2005

Text:  Romans 3:25  Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation [mercy seat] through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

PROPITIATION

Hebrews 9:5-7  And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat [propitiation]; of which we cannot now speak particularly.  6  Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.  7  But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:

FAITH

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is the substance of things (His blood) hoped for, the evidence (going to the mercy seat) of things (His blood) not seen.

APPROPRIATE THE BLOOD TO SERVE

Hebrews 9:14  How much more shall the blood of Christ, . . . purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

SERVE ONLY GOD

Matthew 4:10  . . . it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

CAN’T HAVE TWO MASTERS

Matthew 6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

WE SERVE WHOM WE OBEY

Romans 6:16-18  Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?  17  But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.  18  Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

LET GRACE REIGN

Romans 5:21  That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto [leading to] eternal [age] life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

MAY WE HAVE GRACE

Hebrews 12:28  Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have [present active subjunctive] grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

OBTAIN MERCY, FIND GRACE

Hebrews 4:16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy (at the mercy seat), and find grace to help in time of need.

THE BLOOD MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO SERVE

Hebrews 9:11-14  But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal [agelasting] redemption for us. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

ENTER THE HOLIEST BY THE BLOOD

Hebrews 10:19-22  Having therefore, brethren (as priests), boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,  20  By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;  21  And having an high priest over the house of God;  22  Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

BLOOD AND REMISSION

Hebrews 9:22  And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission [liberty, deliverance, see Luke 4:18].

REMISSION DEFINED

Luke 4:18  . . . he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance [afesiv, remission] to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty [afesiv, remission] them that are bruised [oppressed],

LUKE 4:18 QUOTED FROM . . .

Isaiah 61:1  The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; . . . to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

REDEMPTION THROUGH HIS BLOOD

Ephesians 1:7  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness [remission, liberty, deliverance] of [from] sins, according to the riches of his (power) grace;

REDEEMED FROM BONDAGE

Exodus 6:6  Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:

REDEEMED ISRAEL

Exodus 15:13  Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation. (the land flowing with milk and honey)

REDEMPTION BY CHRIST’S BLOOD

1 Peter 1:18-19  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation (lifestyle) received by tradition from your fathers;  19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

LOOSED FROM OUR SINS IN THE BLOOD

Revelation 1:5  . . . Unto him that loved us, and washed [loosed] us from our sins in his own blood,

MAKE YOU PERFECT THROUGH THE BLOOD

Hebrews 13:20-21  Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,  21  Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

GENTILES MADE NIGH

Ephesians 2:13  But now in Christ Jesus ye (Gentiles) who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

TO THOSE WHO CAN HEAR

Acts 26:17-18  Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles (who have ears to hear), unto whom now I send thee, 18 To open their eyes (see Luke 18:35-43), and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power (the authority, bondage) of Satan unto (the authority) God, that they may receive forgiveness [remission, deliverance, liberty] of [from] sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

SANCTIFY WITH HIS OWN BLOOD

Hebrews 13:12-14  Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.  13  Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.  14  For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

THE HEAVENLY INHERITANCE

Acts 20:32  And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
