ROMANS 2:12-13

Sunday Morning:

Text:  Romans 2:12-15  For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;  13.  (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.  14.  For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:  15.  Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

YOU MUST BE JUST TO LIVE BY FAITH

Romans 1:16-17  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth [present active]; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.  17.  For therein (the gospel of Christ) is the righteousness of God (by faith) revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

THE UNJUST

Romans 1:18  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

THE DISOBEDIENT

Romans 2:8-9  But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness [unjustness], (their consequences) indignation and wrath,  9.  Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth [present middle] evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

GOOD WORKS REWARDED

Romans 2:6-7  Who will render [reward] to every man according to his deeds [works]:  7.  To them who by patient continuance in well doing [deeds, works] seek [present tense] for glory and honour and immortality [incorruption], eternal [age, as an adjective describing] life:

GLORY, HONOR TO THE ONES BELIEVING

Romans 2:10  But glory, honour, and peace (not anguish, etc.), to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE JUST?

Romans 2:13  (For not the hearers of the law are just [G1342, righteous] before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified [G1344, .

ZACHARIAS AND ELISABETH WERE JUST

Luke 1:6  And they were both righteous [G1342, just] before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

NOT BY THE DEEDS OF THE LAW ALONE

Romans 3:20-21  Therefore by the deeds of the law (alone) there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge [deeper knowledge] of [the] sin.  21.  But now the righteousness of God without (in addition no) the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

MEN IN ADDITION TO WOMEN AND CHILDREN

Matthew 14:21  And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside [G5565, in addition to] women and children.

IN THE CHURCH AND OUT OF THE CHURCH

2 Corinthians 11:28  Beside [G5565, in addition to] those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.

IN ADDITION TO

Leviticus 9:17  And he brought the meat offering, and took an handful thereof, and burnt it upon the altar, beside [G5565, LXX, in addition to] the burnt sacrifice of the morning. (see Num. 16:49; Jdg 20:15)

FOR THE ONES BELIEVING

Romans 3:22  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe [present active participle, equivalent to faith (continue living by faith)]: for there is no difference (Jew, Gentile):

THE COMMANDMENTS OF THE LORD

1 Corinthians 14:37  If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

RIGHTEOUSNESS OF FAITH NOT THE LAW

Matthew 5:17-20  Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.  18.  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.  19.  Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.  20.  For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees (the law), ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

A CERTAIN RULER ASKED HIM

Luke 18:18-23  And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?  19.  And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

REWARD FOR WORKS

Colossians 3:23-24  And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;  24.  Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

OBEY THE COMMANDMENTS

20.  Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

THE MAN WAS JUST

21.  And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.

NOW LIVE BY FAITH

22.  Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

IT COST TO LIVE BY FAITH

23.  And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

NOT JUSTIFIED BY LAW ALONE

Galatians 3:11-12  But that no man is justified by the law (alone) in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just (godly) shall live [future middle, for themselves] by faith.  12.  And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

THE LAW WAS THE SCHOOLMASTER

Galatians 3:21-24  Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life (in the kingdom of heaven), verily righteousness should have been by the law.  22.  But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise (agelasting life, 1 Jn 2:25) by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.  23.  But before faith came, we were kept [under guard] under the law, shut up [enclosed, Luke 5.6, as fish in a net) unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.  24.  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ (resurrected high priest), that we might be justified by faith (1co 15:17, He is risen, faith is not vain).

LAW IS NOT FOR THE JUST

1 Timothy 1:8-11  But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;  9.  Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous [just] man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, . . .

YOU ARE LIVING BY FAITH IF UNDER GRACE

Romans 6:14  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

WE HAVE GRACE BY FAITH

Romans 5:2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

FALLING FROM GRACE

Galatians 5:4-5  Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.  5.  For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

DEPARTING FROM THE FAITH

1 Timothy 4:1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

BE JUST AND LIVE BY FAITH

Acts 14:22  Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue (pleasing God, Heb 11:6) in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
