PAUL’S PRAYER

Sunday Morning:  October 29, 2000

Text: 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17  "Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, 17. Comfort [He might exhort] your hearts, and stablish [He might establish] you in every good word and work."

THAT THE ONE GOD

2 Thessalonians 2:16  "Now our Lord Jesus Christ [nominative singular] himself, and God [nominative singular], even our Father [nominative singular], which [the one (not they)] hath loved [aorist active participle nominative singular (one God)] us, and hath given [aorist active participle nominative singular] us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, "

THE EXHORTER

John 14:16-17  "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter [exhorter], that he may abide with you for ever [an age]; 17. Even the Spirit of [the] truth; . . .  ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."

REHEARSER OF THINGS TO COME

John 16:13  "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of [the] truth, is come, he will guide you into all [the] truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak [rehearse]: and he will show you things to come."

HOPE OF AGE LIFE

Titus 1:2  "In hope of eternal [age, noun] life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;"

GRACE BY FAITH FOR HOPE

Romans 5:2  "By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God."

CHRIST’S POWER

2 Corinthians 12:9  "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

FIND GRACE

Hebrews 4:16  "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."

 

GRACE FOR GOOD WORKS

Hebrews 12:28  "Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have [present active subjunctive, may we have] grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:"

REIGNING GRACE

Romans 5:20-21  "Moreover the law entered, that the offence (lawlessness) might abound. But where [the] sin (lawlessness 1 John 3:4) abounded, grace did much more abound: 21. That as [the] sin (lawlessness) hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto [leading to] eternal [agelasting] life by Jesus Christ our Lord."

APPROVED BY GRACE FOUND

Titus 3:7  "That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal [agelasting] life."

EXHORT YOUR HEART

2 Thessalonians 2:17  "Comfort [aorist active optative, might exhort] your hearts, and stablish [aorist active optative, might stedfastly set] you in every good word and work."

OUT OF THE HEART
