Text:  1 Corinthians 10:12-15  Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.  13  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.  14  Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.  15  I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

NOT EXCUSED FROM THE TEST

1 Corinthians 10:13  There hath no temptation [trials] taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted [tested] above that ye are able; but will with the temptation [test] also make a way to escape [exit, go out], that ye may be able to bear [from underneath, endure] it.

NOT THESE TEMPTATIONS

1 Corinthians 6:9-10  Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,  10  Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

TEMPTATIONS FROM GOD

James 1:2-4  My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations [testing, trials, proving];  3  Knowing this, that the trying [testing, (from proof)] of your faith worketh patience [endurance, perseverance].  4  But let patience [endurance, perseverance] have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

SAME WORD, DIFFERENT APPLICATION

James 1:13-14  Let no man say when he is tempted [testing, trials, proving], I am tempted [enticed] of God: for God cannot be tempted [enticed] with evil, neither tempteth [entice] he any man:  14  But every man is tempted [enticed], when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed [entrapped].

ABIDE UNDER THE TEST

James 1:12  Blessed is the man that endureth [stay under] temptation [testing, trials, proving]: for when he is tried [approved], he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love [present active participle] him. (continues to endure by obeying the Lord)

THE HOPE OF GLORY IS TESTED

1 Peter 1:6-9  Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold [various] temptations [testing, trials, proving]:  7  That the trial [testing, proving] of your faith (things not seen that are hoped for), being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried [examined] with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:  8  Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:  9  Receiving the end of your faith (proven hope), even the salvation (so great salvation) of your souls.

REJOICE IN TRIALS

1 Peter 4:12-13  Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:  13  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

FIERY TRIALS

Deuteronomy 8:15-16  Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;  16  Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;

GOD PROVED HEZEKIAH

2 Chronicles 32:31  Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

FEELING OF BEING ALONE

Psalms 13:1  How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

TRUST GOD

Jeremiah 29:11  For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

WE NEED CONFIDENCE IN GOD

Isaiah 50:7  For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

THE GODLY ARE DELIVERED

2 Peter 2:9  The Lord knoweth how to deliver [flow of the current (in the circumstances of the test)] the godly out [through] of temptations, and to reserve the unjust (the disobedient who fail the testing) unto the day of judgment to be punished:

NOT PLEASING TO GOD

1 Corinthians 10:5-6  But with many of them (fathers, v1) God was not well pleased: for they (fathers, v1) were overthrown in the wilderness.  6  Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil [worthless, (little value)] things, as they (fathers, v1) also lusted.

 MANY FATHERS PERISHED

Numbers 11:33-34  And while the flesh (quail) was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.  34  And he called the name of that place Kib’-roth-hat-ta’-a-vah  (graves of the longing): because there they buried the people (fathers) that lusted.

WHILE GOD WAS SILENT

1 Corinthians 10:7  Neither be ye idolaters, as were come of them (fathers, v1); as it is written, The people (fathers, v1) sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. (while Moses was on Mt. Sinai before God)

LACK OF SEPARATION

1 Corinthians 10:8  Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them (fathers, v1) committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. (The daughters of the Moabites, Num 25)

NOT CONTENT

1 Corinthians 10:9-10  Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them (fathers, v1) also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.  10  Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

REJECTED WHAT GOD PROVIDED

Numbers 21:5-6  And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.  6  And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died (perished).

DISCIPLINE

1 Corinthians 9:25-27  And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. …  26  I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:  27  But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway [disapproved, reprobate, rejected (perish as the fathers)]

IS THE HOPE OF GLORY ALIVE?

2 Corinthians 13:5  Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith (still have the hope of glory, and desire to please God); prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you (hope of glory), except ye be reprobates [castaway, disapproved, rejected]?

BE ADMONISHED!

1 Corinthians 10:11  Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition [rebuke, warning], upon whom the ends of the world [ages] are come.
