Text:  Read Romans 10:6-17

RIGHTEOUSNESS OUT OF FAITH

Romans 10:6-7  But the righteousness which is of [out of] faith speaketh [present active] on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) (Christ has already come from above)  7  Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) (Christ has already risen from the dead)

RATHER, RISEN AGAIN

Romans 8:34  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, …

IF CHRIST BE NOT RISEN

1 Corinthians 15:14  And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

FAITH IS NOW A REALITY

1 Corinthians 15:20  But now is Christ risen from the dead, …

FAITH IS IN THEIR MOUTH AND HEART

Romans 10:8  But what saith it (righteousness which is out of faith)? The word [rhma, specific word] (of Christ, v.17) is nigh thee (not they), even in thy mouth, and in thy (not they) heart: that is, the word of faith, which we (also Paul) preach [present active indicative];

“THEE”, “THY” ARE THE CALLED

Romans 1:7  To all that be in Rome, (all the) beloved of God, called, to be saints: …

FAITH GIVE SUBSTANCE TO …

Hebrews 11:1-2  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  2  For by it the elders obtained a good report.

WITHOUT FAITH, YOU CAN’T PLEASE GOD

Hebrews 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: …

NO FAITH, THERE IS NO GRACE

Romans 5:2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

NO GRACE, NO PLACE IN THE KINGDOM

Hebrews 12:28  Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us [may we] have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

CALLED ARE TO CONFESS AND BELIEVE

Romans 10:9  That if thou (remnant) shalt confess [aorist active subjunctive] with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe [aorist active subjunctive] in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved [future passive indicative].

HOW LONG?

Romans 10:10  For with the heart man believeth [present passive, continuous action] unto [leading to] righteousness; and with the mouth confession [present passive, continuous action] is made unto [leading to] salvation.

SAVED FROM HUMILIATION

Romans 10:11  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth [present active participle (faith)] on him shall not be ashamed [future passive, humiliated, disgraced].

BOTH JEW AND GENTILE

Romans 10:12  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich [present active] unto all that call upon [epikalew, present middle] him.

CALL UPON HIS NAME

Romans 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon [epikalew, aorist middle] the name of the Lord shall be saved [future passive].

PAUL BOUND THOSE WHO CALLED

Acts 9:14  And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call [present middle] on thy name.

HIS NAME

Revelation 19:13  And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

MYSTERIES OF THE KINGDOM

Luke 8:11  Now the parable is this: The seed (mysteries of the kingdom v.10) is the word of God.

ACCORDING TO THE WORD OF GOD

John 16:24  Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

TO ENTER INTO FULL JOY

Matthew 25:23  His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

HOW SHALL “THEY” CALL?

Romans 10:14  How then shall they (not “thee”, the remnant) call on [aorist middle] him in whom they have not believed [aorist active]? and how shall they believe [aorist active] in him of whom they have not heard [aorist active]? and how shall they hear [aorist active] without a preacher [present active participle]?

GOD SUPPLIES THAT NEED

Romans 10:15  And how shall they (the ones preaching) preach [aorist active subjunctive], except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach [present middle participle, preaching] the gospel of peace, and bring [present middle participle, preaching] glad tidings of good things!

CHRIST, PRIEST OF GOOD THINGS

Hebrews 9:11  But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, …

CEREMONIAL LAW A SHADOW

Hebrews 10:1  For the law having a shadow of good things to come,

JACOB’S INHERITANCE - THINGS TO COME

Hebrews 11:20  By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

THOSE WITH BEAUTIFUL FEET

Isaiah 52:7  How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

THEY MUST BELIEVE THE HEARING

Romans 10:16  But they (the remnant) have not all obeyed [aorist active indicative] the gospel (of peace, v.15). For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed [aorist active indicative] our report [hearing]?

ISAIAH’S COMMISSION

Isaiah 6:9  And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye [report, ye shall hear, lxx] indeed, but understand not; and see [the ones seeing shall see, lxx] ye indeed, but perceive not.

ISAIAH’S REPORT

Isaiah 53:1  Who hath believed our report [hearing, lxx] ? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

THE CONCLUSION

John 12:38-40  That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report [hearing]? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?  39  Therefore they could not believe [present active], because that Esaias said again,  40  He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal (sick or healed not the dead) them.

BY CONFESSING AND BELIEVING

Romans 10:17  So then [the] faith cometh by [ek, out of] hearing [report, thing heard], and hearing [report, thing heard] by the word [rhma, specific word, v.8] of God [Christ, Nt].

THE SPECIFIC WORD OF CHRIST

Romans 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation (so great salvation) to every one that believeth [present active participle]; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD REVEALED

Romans 1:17  For therein (the gospel of Christ) is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

THE JUST LIVE BY FAITH

Philippians 3:9  And [may] be found [aorist passive subjunctive] in him, not [mh, not maybe] having [present active participle] mine own righteousness, which is of [ek, out from] the law, but that which is through [by means of] the faith of [from] Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
