Text:  Romans 7:1-4  Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?  2  For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.  3  So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.  4  Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

THOSE WHO KNOW THE LAW

Romans 7:1  Know ye not [present active, being ignorant], brethren, (for I speak to them (Jews and Gentiles) that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion [present active, 3rd singular, law has dominion] over a man as long as he [or “it”] liveth [present active, 3rd person singular (as long as the law liveth]? (the law dies in verse 4)

UNDER THE LAW

Galatians 4:4-5  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem (loosed or release) them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption [position, place] of sons.

BEFORE FAITH

Galatians 3:23  But before faith came, we were kept under the (dominion of) law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

ILLUSTRATED BY HUSBAND AND WIFE

Romans 7:2  For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth [present active]; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

BOUND BY THE LAW

1 Corinthians 7:39  The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married [gamew] to whom she will; only in the Lord.

FREE FROM THE LAW

Romans 7:3  So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married [ginomia, to become, cause to be, not gamew, to marry, 1 Cor. 7:39)] to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married [ginomia, to become, cause to be] to another man.

MARRIED

Romans 7:7  What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid [ginomia, to become (marry?)], . Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

LAW PUT TO DEATH

Romans 7:4  Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married [ginomia, to become, cause to be] to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should [may] bring forth [subjunctive] fruit unto God.

BY THE BODY OF CHRIST

Colossians 2:14-16  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;  15  And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.  16  Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF CHRIST

Romans 7:4  Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married [ginomia, to become, cause to be] to another, even to him (Christ) who is raised from the dead, that we should [may] bring forth [subjunctive] fruit unto God.

TWO SHALL BE ONE

Ephesians 5:30-32  For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.  31  For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.  32  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

THEY MAY BE ONE

John 17:21-22  That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.  22  And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

BRING FORTH FRUIT

Romans 7:4  Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married [ginomia, to become, cause to be] to another, even to him (Christ) who is raised from the dead, that we should [may] bring forth [subjunctive] fruit unto God.

GRACE AND TRUTH

John 1:17  For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

THE POWER TO BEAR FRUIT

2 Corinthians 12:9  And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

NO POWER IN THE LAW

Hebrews 7:16-18  Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.  17  For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.  18  For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

THE LAW AND WEAK FLESH

Romans 8:3  For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

ONE WITH THE VINE

John 15:4  Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

WITHOUT ME YE CAN DO NOTHING

John 15:5  I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

THE FATHER GLORIFIED

John 15:8  Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

THE FRUIT OF THE VINE IS DRINK

Matthew 26:29  But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

THAT CHEERETH GOD

Judges 9:13  And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine (drink), which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

CREATED FOR HIS PLEASURE

Revelation 4:11  Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

CONTINUE IN THE FAITH

Act 14:22  Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

CONTINUE IN GRACE

Acts 13:43  Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
