Text: Read Romans 1:1-7

Romans 1:1

"Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,"

Separated unto –  Perfect Passive. Separated in the past, before he was aware of it, because of the perfect tense. He was acted upon in that he was passive in the act of being set apart.

Separate is a compound word. apo meaning: from; and orizw meaning: to determine, to declare, or to ordain. Acts 10:42 Christ was ordained of God

Leviticus 20:24  "But I have said unto you, Ye (Israel) shall inherit their land, . . . I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people."

Acts 13:2  "As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul (from the others in the church at Antioch) for the work whereunto I have called them." (not the whole church)

Jeremiah 1:5  "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."

Galatians 1:15-16  "But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace, 16. To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:"

Gospel of God – Found in Romans 15:16; 2 Corinthians 11:7; 1 Thessalonians 2:2, 8, 9; 1 Peter 4:17

Romans 1:3  "(The Gospel of God defined) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;"

Luke 1:32-33  "He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33. And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end."

Romans 15:16  "That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God

Romans 1:9  "For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, . . ."

Romans 1:16  "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth [present active participle]; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."

Romans 10:15  "And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"

Acts 10:36-37  "The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace (gospel of peace) by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) 37. That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;"

Acts 11:1  "And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God." (the or that word)

Hebrews 9:11  "But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, . . ."

Galatians 1:11-12  "But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ."

 

1 Thessalonians 2:8-9  "So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God (Paul’s gospel) only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. 9. For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God."

1 Thessalonians 2:2  "But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention."

2 Timothy 2:7-9  "Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. 8. Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: 9. Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound."

Luke 8:10-11  "And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. 11. Now the parable is this: The seed (the mysteries of the kingdom) is the word of God."

Romans 1:2

"(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)"

Which – A neuter pronoun in agreement with the word gospel in verse one that is also neuter gender. “Which” is a pronoun referring to “The gospel of God

Romans 16:25-26  "Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world [ages] began, 26. But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, . . ."

Ephesians 3:3, 5-6  "How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; . . . 5. Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; 6. That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:"

Acts 26:22-23  "Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: 23. That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should show light unto the people (the Jews), and to the Gentiles."

Acts 8:30  "And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?"

Acts 8:32  "The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:" (Isaiah 53:7, 8)

Acts 8:35  "Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus."
